As a soon-to-be hedgie owner, I've been browsing this site for a while and have come across many terms, some of which I've been able to figure out, and some that I haven't. I thought it might be useful for me and for other hedgie noobs to have a list of common hedgehog terms and their definitions, and I couldn't find anything like that already on the site. I'll start with the ones I can think of... please correct me if I'm wrong!

CSFTCLS - Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul: a premium cat food
Anointing - a behaviour exhibited by hedgies when they encounter a new smell. They will rub the smell all over themselves. There are differing theories as to why they do this.
Huffing - ?
Popping - ?

I'm sure there must be more than this - but these are all I can think of right now.

Huffing is when the puff up in a ball and make a quick breathing sound.
Popping is when they make a clicking noise and bounce a little bit.

What's the term for the noise when it sounds like they are purring, but they are actually really ticked-off? lol...

Hissing.

All hedgehog owners get well acquainted with that one really quick.

RC - Royal Canin brand cat food, also a highly recommended food.
Tubing - When a hedgehog runs around with a toilet tube roll on their heads. Why? No idea. I have this theory that they enjoy the tunnel vision.
Chirping - A noise that sounds similar to a bird's. Males usually exhibit this, but some females (Hemi included) enjoy using this noise to get attention. AND FAST.

I have this theory that since they burrow in the wild, tubing is like burrowing your head and that is why they do it.
Snuffling- some people use this term and it is like when you blow air threw your nose. They generally do this at same time as huffing or popping. All of these noises are done while curled into a spike ball.
Visor quills- The particularly sharp quills on their head that they can pull down over their eyes. Often used to charge people with when annoyed.

Haha I didn't know it was called hissing, I always just called it puttering because it sounded like a helicoptor or just something puttery.
