Our rescue received an email from this person. She said she has contacted the local shelters in her area as well.
I forwarded her information on chinchilla care and some good chin links she can check out. I also told her she was welcome to contact me again if she had any concerns, questions or needed any help regarding the chinchilla she found.
In my reply to her I suggested she edit her lost and found ad so there was no picture of the animal or details like sex and color (even know this isn't too hard to take a good guess at). I'm hoping this will help to weed out people looking for a free chin and putting in a false claim for her. I'm hoping it helps in finding the rightful owner too (if that person is actually looking for this chin and she wasn't just set free). I also suggested maybe dropping the chin off at the owner's house to varify they have a cage/set up for a chinchilla showing that they really have lost a chinchilla.
No menton of the chinchilla's condition. I do know that the person who caught this girl had a pet rabbit in her yard and the chinchilla found her way to the rabbit's feed dish LOL ..........clever chillas!!! It probably saved her life : )
I'll keep you updated if I hear anything else.
Thats so sad! I hope she/he finds her/his home soon.

Hmmmm ..........how strange!
Recently we had a similiar situation in rescue but with a hedgehog.
So I'm hoping for a good ending and this chinchilla gets reunited with her original owner.

Just wanted to let everyone know that this had a happy ending. The person who found the lost chinchilla reunited her with her original owner :applause:
I was told that the chinchilla had been missing for over a week so the original owner figured there was no hope for finding her Carmelita (the chin's name). The owner was so upset that she didn't want to get another chin or look at the empty cage so she decided to put the cage up for sale. A person came out to buy the cage and when they heard the story of how the chinchilla had been missing told the owner of an ad on Craigslist about a chinchilla that had been found. So the owner told the person wanting to buy the cage that the cage was no longer for sale  Well the owner of the female chin turned out to live 2 houses and a small park away from where it was found.
I just had to share :) It was so neat how everything worked out so great!!
