My dad (in Portland, OR) fell off the 2nd story roof last Thursday and has been in the ICU ever since. I immediately flew home, and it has become apparant to me that my mom cannot do this alone. I'm taking a semester leave of absence from my PhD program and telecommuting for my job until he is home and decently healed. Right now he has 2 collapsed lungs, pneumonia, and basically every rib is fractured or broken. He is 78, so he has a VERY long road ahead of him. I'm just grateful he is alive, as he only had a 40% chance of living.
My 4 chins are in Rochester, NY and I desperately need someone to give them a temporary home until I get my dad healthy again and return to Rochester (guessing late Nov early Dec). I will supply them with cages, food, bedding, treats, dust, the works! I'm willing to deliver them to anyone within 6 hours or so who could do me this HUGE favor. I can't easily get them to Portland, or I would bring them with me.

I could also take one (but not all four, sorry). I'm at U of R and I've been wishing I could get a pet, but my lifestyle has the potential to change dramatically (when I go on to grad school, move to a new city, etc.) in the next couple years and I don't feel it would be fair to subject an animal to that potential unknown.
I have a single in the university's undergraduate apartments (glick). The worst aspect of college the chinchilla would be subjected to would be 2am movies. No drunken squalor.

Are they all caged together? Or in seperate cages? I would be willing to take them all. I live in Del.... I know someone else that may be willing to take them too.... She is in PA...

Thank you all! They are currently in one huge melamine cage divided into two, but it's too large to transport, so they would be in 2 cages that are 2'x2'x2' (a cage for the 2 boys and a cage for the 2 girls). I'm actually waiting to hear from my roomie today if she's going to be willing to feed and clean them while I'm gone (yay!) in exchange for some reduced rent. Obviously this would be the best situation, and she has cared for them before for me. If she decides not to, I'll contact you guys and figure something out.
Thanks!
Tia
