My family finally took a trip to the city today (it doesn't happen too often), and I got a chance to do some proper shopping for the boys.
I'm beginning to wish I was a hedgehog that belonged to me...

I got them new food and water bowls, because their old ones bothered me. They didn't match, and I'm obsessive-compulsive about stuff like that. These ones are wider and more shallow, too, so they're easier to access for the short little guys. :p

Food-wise, they got:
*100 mealworms
*50 crickets
*50 wax worms
*10 butter worms
*Beef with broth baby food
I want to start giving them more insects, because the two of them really enjoy mealies, and I thought I'd give them more selection. Plus, with more bugs, I can ease them onto a regular diet, bugs included! Whenever I tried doing that before, I'd run out of bugs before they got used to it.
I know that mealworms, crickets and waxworms are all safe, and with only 10, I thought I'd buy butter worms just in case. :) I haven't heard much about 'em, though... good or bad? I'll wait to feed it to them, just in case.
I also saw super worms. They are freaking SCARY. I shuddered just looking at them.

They got three enormous fleece blankets, and some c-cubes. Tonight I'm going to set up their playpen! Before, they'd be allowed to run around on the floor, but it was always closely supervised. Now I can let them run around in their pen while I play on my computer nearby. I'm looking forward to it!
Of course, no playpen would be complete without toys. I kind of went crazy with that part. They've got stuffed animals, fuzz balls, jingle boys, toilet paper tubes, some pipes... and, of course, a little toy box to hold it all in.

I got them a MUCH bigger heater. It's super sophisticated, and quite pricey, if I do say so myself. The ceramic heater has been working well so far, but this one will be really useful once winter moves in. I also got two thermometers: one for each cage. Maybe I'll be a little less paranoid about temperatures from now on.

I also got some face cloths and a vegetable scrubbing brush for wheel cleaning, and a shiney new toothbrush for bath time.

No more shopping trips for a while... Although I'm sure Ed and Vinnie are quite pleased with themselves for manipulating a poor little human like this.

Forget about you being your hedgehog - I want to be your hedgehog!

You have two lucky little boys there.. make sure to take pictures of them enjoying their new Yums and playpen!

(I have to have things match too - all Hemi's stuff is blue, except her wheel. It drives me crazy that I can't find a blue wheel for her. LOL.)

Wow I guess your boys are spoiled. Very lucky guys. You will have to show off the new playpen and them enjoying the new treats and toys.

Hemi....Herbie has a blue theme in his cage too (except for the blankie....he loves his red blankies the best). He has a blue cage and blue wheel, and blue kleenex hidey house, blue jingle balls, blue beanie stingray.

Lol! I take it you have a purple comfort wheel? Vincent got the same one... I was so frustrated that it didn't come in other colors.

I think that for Christmas, I'm going to order him a bucket wheel to match his brother's. But shh... the last thing he needs is the promise of MORE toys.

I tried Vinnie out in the cage first, because Edmund likes to sleep later, and the poor little guy looked around and couldn't figure out what to do. He explored very timidly, sniffed the jingle balls, and when he accidentally bumped one, freaked out and huffed. He's on my lap, recovering from the scare.
Typical macho guy. :p He acts tough, but he's really a big mama's-boy.

Yeah, Hemi has a purple wheel, but I think it needs to be replaced... she's wearing her running track down. I can see a little path where she runs.

She also has a pink baby blanket in her cage, that I use to keep her heating pad from her curious little nose. That's her "girly" touch in her cage.

My boyfriend has a blue comfort wheel for his little hedgehog. I've been trying to convince him to trade me, but oh well.

I have the blue wheel for Isis! :) Isis has a blue theme going on because Scotty bought her for me and blue is his favourite colour. So she has a blue cage, blue dishes, a blue wheel and a couple blue toys.

HA, I started the colour theme when we got Emma. She had everything mauve except for her white wheel. Then came Teasel. He had blue. Then Snow, pink, including a pink wheel. Then Freckles. He was turquoise.

Well then Peaches threw a monkey wrench into things. I could no find peach coloured fabric anywhere so planned to do yellow with her but by that time it was driving me crazy because one of them would spill water or would run out of bedding so I'd have to use someone elses bedding, so I just gave up.

Hehehe. Honey's things are all blue, or blue and white. Except for her two hedgebags - which are both green. :)

Ha, spoiled little hedgies! They are lucky to have you looking after them. I found some information about butterworms if you're still interested...

From the reading I did, it seems that butterworms are an OK feeder for hedgehogs, but I'm certainly no expert! I'll have to ask my vet next time I see him.
