I know the last couple of threads on here have been about weight worries, but thats what got me wondering too! I took pix to the vet today and she is 300g exactly. She's only 3 months old though so I wondered if that were a little big? She doesn't feel pudgy to me, her tummy is flat and she balls up ok...so am i worried for nothing?
also, is there any sort of average weight/age chart around to compare to? I'm going to buy a scale soon and keep track of her weight but I wondered if there were a generic "if your hedgehog is 5 months old it should be between such and such weights"

I think that if she can ball up ok she's fine. :)

I am in need of a kitchen scale too - I totally don't trust the pet store that I bought my hedgie from - everything they told and sold me was so wrong :S He can ball up without any problems but I really am hoping to get a better idea of his age with his weight and also track to be sure he stays healthy.

I think with hedgehogs the weight chart is something like "if your hog is between 2 months and a billion years old, it should weigh between 100-1000 grams, occasionally more without being obese" If she can still roll into a ball she's fine. Mines about 280 at 3 months and a week... And growing ones can sometimes gain 100 grams in a week! Also I think I heard that if they have not pooped recently that can add as much as 25 grams...

There is no way at all to get even the slightest idea of age based on how much the hedgehog weighs. The only idea you can get is if he is quilling baby quills, he is under 6 months old. If he isn't then he is over 6 months old. :)

Well, at 3 months old, Hemi was barely 100 grams, but she had been fed crappy food at the petstore. Within a few months on good quality food, she shot up to about 350 grams. Now, she's a pudgy, healthy 525-550grams.
General rule of thumb: If they can curl into a ball, they're fine. If they can't curl into a ball, they're too chubby. If their tummy feels sunken in, they're too skinny. You can't judge age by weight though, since each hedgehog varies so much.
