My two have been on Spike's and Royal Canin mixed for the entire time I have had them and I have yet to find a store that has it. I buy mine online from Hedgehogs by vickie. If you happen to find a store that sells it please let me know.

That's one of the reasons why I took Lucy off of the Spike's, because as far as I know, you can't find it in stores. I didn't want to keep buying it online and paying for shipping.
Reggie's Mom, is Reggie on the Royal Canin 37? He's been sick too, maybe he needs to gain a little weight? Just a thought.
You could add another food in with the Royal Canin to give him a nice mix. I don't use Royal Canin 37 (it's a good food though). I use in my mix:
Natural Balance Reduced Calorie Cat Formula (http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/catformulas/RedCalCat.html) Found at Petco
Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul Light (http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssoul.com/formulasnew.php?PL=4&S=Cats&FT=Dry%20Food&F=16) They have a locate retailers on their site
Blue Buffalo Spa Select Lite Cats (http://www.bluebuff.com/products/cats_lite.shtml) Found at PetSmart
Maybe if you add a bit of another food in there, it will help keep his weight even.
Is he exercising?
He's on a medicine too, isn't he? I wonder if that could be a side-effect?
Just thoughts going through my head....

He is just having needles. He is over weight though. He weighed 720 then I got him down to 580 in a month then he gained 20 grams in the last week.:(
He sometimes goes on his wheel but he is very skittish. Is gets terrified you you make the slightest movement. he also sometimes plays in his exercise ball and in his play pen too.

Yeah, I've never heard of Spikes being offered in a store. If it is it's probably one that's owned by one of the few online suppliers...
And I've heard that being on only one type of food can have side effects, though I've heard of smelly poo when on only one food, though I don't know about weight... try to find a local pet store that carries sample size bags, then you only have a small amount of food but it has 2 or 3 different types in it...
I agree that the medicine could be causing weight gain, but you can't tell for sure... I'm sure eventually you'll find the perfect mix that keeps Reggie at a good weight. Just may take a little trial and error... If you try a certain food in the mix that brings his weight down then you know you've found the perfect one! Otherwise, I dunno... Mines only a baby and from what I can tell at a good weight, not fat or skinny... He gets a mix of four, Natural Balance, CSFTCLS, Wellness, and Solid gold. I've noticed that since adding two more foods his poos not as smelly, but with weight it's hard to tell if it's normal weight growth or not on a 3 month old...
Ooh, I know you could put a mealie on a stick and make him chase that around! Like a donkey with a carrot on cartoons! That would be so mean... Anyway, good luck with Reggie!

Some hogs are just really picky. I've offered Luna and Isis some really nice treats and they just sniff it, turn up their noses and look at me like, "you expect me to eat THAT!?" Little princesses.
It's funny though because Luna will eat fruits and veggies and won't touch meats and Isis only likes meats and won't touch fruits and veggies. :dunno:

I have not switched from Spikes because the boys like it and I bought 5 lbs when I bought Herbie 4 months ago. It has been in the freezer and will have to be thrown out soon. I have only been able to find Royal Canin Light 37 in the pet stores here. I am not able to find the other foods everyone talks about. If I find them I might switch the boys off Spike's because it is hard to get.

About the only treats Lucy likes are her mealworms. I've tried quite a few things with her, but she turns her little nose up at them. :)

I have had hogs lose 20 grams in a good poop!...lol
Really though. Trying weighing him at different times during the day and night for about three days then taking the average of that weight. That's what I do.
And about the treats, don't give up. Hogs likes and dislikes change. I know this for a fact! lol
Marco wouldn't touch a mealie for almost the first year that I had him. Then, he decided he liked crickets. Then, for no reason what so ever, he decided one night he didn't like crickets, he liked mealies. He has not eaten a cricket since. Odo loved mealies from the moment I first held her until the day she died. Ruby will eat anything. And, I mean anything! Kahuna would not touch cricket, mealie, fruit, veggies, anything but his kibble. I kept giving him the chance to eat different treats and one night, again, out of nowhere, he started eating anything he was offered. Hedgies can and will change likes and dislikes. Just keep offering them.
One last thing. Your fellow might just be a bigger boy than most. Ruby is over 900 gms but shows no sagging flesh under her front arms, is very active, can still completely form a tight ball and has been eating only CSFTCLS lite with very few treats for the last six months. She has actually gained weight after I put her on a diet. She is just a big boned girl. One way to know if your boy is fat or just a big guy is to check the flesh under his front arm pits. If it is sagging, then he may be over weight. I say maybe because that's not fool proof either. Your doing everything you can think of, don't drive yourself crazy. You can only do what you can do. That's what I finally had to decide with Ruby. She is going to be a certain size no matter what I do or feed her, So I just make sure she gets the same amount as the others and plenty of water. BTW, I can't seem to find the thread where we know how long you have had him or when you got him. Link please.
Thank you.
