View Full Version : Scout, still losing quills...

I just read the post about another hedgehog losing quills..I had mentioned awhile back that mine is having the same issue. I took him to the vet and she said it was most likely mites and she put him to sleep and gave him an injection.

Well.

After that, he got VERY sick and he wouldn't eat for days. I was going crazy trying to make him eat...I eventually got him to eat some baby food meatsticks and then over time he got better and is eating regularly and is active again, thank GOD.

However, he's still losing the quills.

I guess what I'm asking is...if she is right and he has mites, is there anything else I can do to clear them up rather than take him back to the vet and get another injection? That whole thing really scared me and I'd rather not put him through it or even worse, risk his life.

Any advice is appreciated.

DON'T GO BACK FOR THE SECOND SHOT, PLEASE! Your hedgie was probably injected with Ivermectin. I'm very sorry that your hedgie had to go through it; it must have been awful for you and your hedgie. Thank godness, it didn't kill your hedgie! There were many others who weren't as fortunate as your Scout though (see the related thread in HHC below).

Revolution is highly recommended for mites. Maybe you can ask your vet to use it or seek for a vet who uses it. Good luck and big hugs to your suffering Scout... :flowers:
