Well, the breeder always fed her hogs some wet cat food every evening, because when she took them off it they lost too much weight. So now I'm trying to wean him away from the wet cat food for the most part. I've been slowly decreasing the amount he gets over the past month or so, and now when I've gotten down to about a quarter of what he had been been fed, he went from 290 on friday to 277 today. And he has not pooped recently because I just woke him up. Should I wait till he's fully grow before I try to take it out of the every day diet? Or is there something I could do to make the transition easier? Am I going too fast?

BTW: here's some pics of my Rico. :hearts:

Rico is a cutie! How old is Rico? I would suggest weening him off of it...I know some owners feed thier babies wet kitten food to put on weight, but he looks pretty healthy to me. Are you feeding him any dry cat foods? I couldn't imagine how bad his poos would smell with wet cat food..... Hope this helps!

Oh, yeah he has a mix of CSFTCLS, Natural Balance, Wellness, and Solid Gold dry food. Currently he only gets about 1/8-1/4 teaspoon wet cat food, and I've been using that to my advantage to get him to eat grapenuts, but now that he's settled I am trying to get him off of it except for maybe a weekly tidbit. His poos did smell a lot worse when he had more of 3/4 teaspoon wet cat food. Good news is that I measured him today (a little early, but he was awake so I decided to see where he was) and he was 283, so I'm not aw worried as before...

Those pics are a little old, I think the first one is when he was about 11 weeks and the other two are around nine, but now he's 15 weeks. We just moved and I can't find the missing cord to my camera so I don't exactly have new pics, but I will post them when I do!

Okay, I stopped all together 3 days ago, the first day he seemed fine and there wasn't much change but the last two days he has dropped to about 271 and his poos are hard and small and he doesn't seem to be running as much (from what the poo on the wheel says, but I dunno...) He's also not drinking as much water, but some of this could be due to the weather changes, but I dunno... Help!

So what's the big deal over wet cat food if it keeps him healthy and happy? Make sure it's high quality. I don't see why you'd arbitrarily decide to stop.

Okay then, I just heard it'd cause tooth problems and maybe be too fatty or something... Which are the best brands? I was using wellness but it makes his poo smell really bad, I can live with that, but I'd like a wet cat food that doesn't make it smell so much... if he doesn't like a differnt brand we can always go back to wellness, though...

Wet catfood is 70% water. High quality brands would be the same as the kibbles, but avoid the fish/seafood based ones if they cause stinky poo. Chicken, turkey, duck, venison usually don't make for stink.

You can also feed the meat baby foods as an alternative, if you choose to not feed wet cat food.

Wet food is not to be substituted for the kibbles, but is an addendum or supplement to them. The wet food is no more detrimental to dentition than any other wet food, such as meat and veggies as the kibble is the crunchy that cleans the teeth. Peeled apple slices are also good for feeding after the wet food to aid in removing particles from between the teeth.

I didn't know that about apple, that's kind of cool. Won't work with my girls though because to them apple is for flinging.
