So my roommate and I bought Igby about a week and a half ago, settled him into his new home, switched his diet from the default store food he was fed at the petshop to catfood, and he is doing wonderfully. I decided it was time to see if perhaps he'd like to expand his culinary horizons and bought him some tiny mealworms. I fed him one or two earlier and he seemed to be after more, but I wasn't sure how many he should eat in one sitting or even one day.
I'm a new hedgehog caretaker, so I welcome all manner of thoughts and ideas. If there is anything I should be aware of as far as changes in his manner or stool due to the inclusion of worms I would be happy to know ahead of time so I don't end up scared when he starts to perform complex calculus equations... or something along those lines.
Thanks in advance for your help. You can bet you'll see me around here a lot in the weeks and months and years to come.

My boys get 1-2 mealies a day. I use them for treats for after bath, after cuddle time, and for just being good boys. You have to be careful about giving too many treats because they will not eat enough kibble and the kibble is the most nutritious thing and should be their main diet. I have never noticed change in personality in my boys from mealies except that Herbie stops huffing immediately if given a mealie. I think it is in the hopes that he can con me out of a few more!

I feed mealies and freeze dried crickets 2-3 times a week. Each night the hedgie crew rotates between babyfood veggies, fruits, baked lean meats, scrambled eggs, yogurt, etc.

Any new food could cause changes in his stool-- so be aware of that-- if he has green poo in the next few days it is probably caused by the mealies-- once his body gets used the the "new food" his stool should be back to normal!!

Same with Luna! She goes from having her visor quills up and only her little nose showing (snorting like a bull the whole time) to little ears perked out, nose going and stretching herself out to find the worm making her face look all pointy and cute.

Thank you for all the hasty replies. I'm understandably nervous about close to everything pretaining to Igby, so it's good to know I have this place to look to for help.
