Hi all, I'm 27, currently living on Long Island NY and am looking to go back to school soon (again *sighs*) for a master's in marital counseling.
I grew up with a menagerie of different animals but have little experience with the smaller furry types (I grew up mostly with larger dogs, reptiles, and birds) . For a while I was interested in getting large fancy rats, but my Mom is from the Bronx so she couldn't abide the idea of pet rodents, and now that I'm no longer at home my S.O. is from Brooklyn and can't abide the idea of pet rats.
So much for that idea.
Currently I have 2 betta fish and 7 tarantulas (no, the tarantulas do not come out of their tanks), and they're all beautiful and fascinating, but ultimately not very snuggly.
I'm a complete animal lover and I'm sure given the opportunity would become the crazy cat lady of the neighborhood, but due to my living situation I can't have anything "free range" for a pet. I'd been searching for something small and professional life friendly but interactive to have as a pet for a while, but never even thought of getting a hedgehog until discussing it with a friend of mine who recently got one. I did some research (and some serious investagatory borrowed hedgie play time) and lo and behold it's pretty much as perfect as it gets, so now I'm looking for my own little love cactus.
I don't expect to be too chatty for a while, especially not until I have my own hedgie to gush about, so for now I'll be lurking and researching.
