...but this is ridiculous! Irwin ran on his wheel last night from about 7:30 pm until around 6 am this morning. Just about nonstop, as far as I can tell! Is it really normal for them to run that much? How can such a tiny body support that level of activity? He was sound asleep when I left this morning, and I don't blame him - I get tired running from the kitchen to the living room to answer the phone! His wheel was super-poopy - but it cleaned up easily enough after a quick soak.

I also have to say - I'm glad I was told to cut a slit down the side of his tp tube. In one of the very few breaks he took from wheeling, he decided he wanted to do some tubing. He stuck his head in - and then proceeded to cram his whole body inside the tube! Watching him get in there was almost as funny as watching him try to get out. If I hadn't cut the tube before putting it in, I suspect we'd be at the vet's office right now to have him surgically removed from his tube!

yeah they LOVE their wheels, mine get up around 7:30 and also keep going until about 7:30ish am. I know they take a small break in the middle of the night since I've been up before and they weren't all going at their wheels. And tubes are the best!!!

Hehehe it's so cute when you see them run because they're little legs are just going so fast! I hear they can run about 7-8 miles a day in the wild. I don't even walk that much in a month.

You should see Orion. So far he has been running almost non stop for 1/2 hour. (He stops to make sure I'm still here then starts up again.) Geez, they sure can go fast.

And the funniest part is when he isn't running in the wheel, he's going underneath it and rubbing his back on the underside of the wheel.

Snow wheels all night as well. I have to shut my bedroom door so he doesn't keep me awake. Sounds like a miniature elephant is running in the living room. LOL

Sounds like a miniature elephant is running in the living room. That reminds me of the Telus advertisements! They should use hedgehogs in their ads, that would be the coolest thing ever. :p

Last night we moved Harley into our spare bedroom where it's a little warmer and he has total privacy. For the first time ever he was already awake when we were going to bed (at about 10:30) and he had run his wheel halfway off the thing.

This morning when I got up, his wheel was laying face down in his cage. He apparently ran it so much it totally unscrewed, even though I tightened it just before bed.

I really need to get a thingie to keep it on tighter. I get the feeling he's going to be running his heart out now that he has his own room
