When I had my little chocolate snowflake, Forty Winks. A good friend of mine has been talking about getting a hedgehog and encouraging me to get another one, so I made the plunge and got a little pinto boy. His name is Chugwater.

I'm really glad I took the plunge again! I still had a lot of Forty's stuff, but it kind of feels like being a brand new owner again.

Now, as far as food, I remember that Vitacraft is bad, bad, bad. I think that I used to feed a combo of 8-1 and Spike's delite. I did buy some Spike's delite from the breeder, but I haven't seen any 8-1 around. Does anyone feed spike's delite alone?

I got the little guy on Friday night and last night he started using his wheel for the first time. I was glad to see that!

And one last thing. Forty was very good at using a little corner litter box so our container remained pretty clean (other than the fact that they insist on pooping as they run on their wheels!) This little guy hasn't touched his litter box at all. I don't remember how Forty was potty trained! Any tips?

He is sooooo cute! :hearts:
How long ago did you have forty winks? I am new to having a hedgie but have been reading lots. Look back on some older threads or the search is really handy. Chicken soup for the cat lovers soul light is a really popular well liked Hedgie food especially mixed with another brand like Royal Canin (also light). From what I have been reading a mix of both and even adding a third is recommended. I offer a little treat just about nightly, my guy loves cantalope so I cut up a small piece for him. Litter training is hit and miss (no pun intended!!! ). I talked to someone who told me to put the pan on the other side of where his food is. Under the wheel also seems like a popular place so it catches what flies out of the wheel. You can try putting a bit of his poo in to give him the idea and then hope for the best. I am sure there will be lots more replies from the experienced crew ~ I just had to post because the pic is adorable! Good luck! :flowers:

What a beautiful pic! Is that Forty or Chugg? Very neat coloring and cool eyes. Welcome back to the forum too!

As for food I wound't reccommend either food that you mentioned. I reccommend using a higher quality cat food such as Royal Canine Slim, Wysong, Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul, etc. Look in the other parts of the forum and you will find great ideas on foods, litters, etc. Good luck and we always enjoy pictures!!

I bought spikes delite from my breeder to help the transition to my house since that was all she fed her herd. I bought some royal canin light 37 and started to add it gradually to her food, and really honestly, Pixie eats the Royal Canin first. She's also lost a tiny bit of weight and poos less since I started integrating it. I think it is because Spikes Delight has a lot more "filler" type food, the Royal Canin has more nutrients. :dunno:

Pixie doesn't understand litterboxes either...I tried, she just dug in it and flung poo and litter around  . Wait and see if there is one spot your hedge likes to go in and try to put the pan there.

Congratulations! Your little hog looks like the king of the jungle in that picture! :bananadance:

He is too cute! My boys are on a mix of Spikes, royal canin light 37 and blue buffalo spa select indoor cat, chicken and rice variety.
