When do you know for sure what color your baby hoglets are gonna be? I have 4 new babies that are 1 week old. They are awesomely cute. They look like baby pin cushions. 2 of them look like they have white stripes going up there backs. Thanks for all your help. :hearts:

I would hold off for a while to sex them, momma hog probably won't take easily to having her babies handled, especially if she's a first time momma. I can't tell you off the top of my head when is the earliest you should but it's somewhere around the 2 1/2 to 3 week stage. And you can tell boys from girls because little boys have a something that LOOKS like a bellybutton around where a bellybutton would be, if hedgehogs had them and girls have a small opening down near their anus. There will be an apparent difference in the spacing between boys' genitals and girls' .

True coloring can't be done until babies are 9 weeks. Most babies have that white stripe for awhile. About 2 -3 weeks you can tell if they will be in the chocolate, or cinnicot range.

I have always wondered what colour Spiny was. Can I send a pic of his quills to someone and they could tell me?

You can to me but I need more than quill colour. Mask and skin is necessary as well. :)

There's a handy interactive color determiner thing online... does anyone have the link for that? I'll see if I can dig it up in the meantime....
