I bought my Hedgie from a petstore, he's three months old and in good health. Besides the fact that he's a bit skittish everything seems to be fine. He's pooping and peeing regularly, but he doesn't seem to be eating much or drinking at all! Is there something wrong with him and is there anything I can do?

I'm no expert, but if he is pooping and peeing then he must be eating/drinking a bit! Count his kibbles, the amount he's actually eating may surprise you! How long have you had him??

It might also depend on what you're feeding him. Some hedgehogs are very picky, and if you're feeding any VitaKraft product or other hedgehog food, chances are that he's not eating it because it just isn't good for him. Check out this link:

It's full of suggestions on what to feed your hedgie. :)

If you just got him he may go on a hunger strike for a day or two...

Also, if he has a wheel in his cage you might want to take it out for the first few days. When I first got my hedgehog, she wouldn't eat, so I took the wheel out for a couple nights and the food was gone...also if she's adjusting to her new environment she might not eat for a couple days.

My hedgie won't eat if she DOESN'T have a wheel in her cage. How odd is that? You might try some fruit or meat baby food to intise her to eat. Also crickets or mealworms are often enough to make my hedgie eat.

Count his kibble to know exactly how much he is eating. Sometimes they eat more than we think and counting is the only sure way to tell.

Often they don't eat much the first few days in a new home. Does he have a water bowl or bottle. Try giving both.

If he is pooping and peeing, then he is eating and drinking something.

Keep us posted. :)

Each hedgehog has their unique personality.
I would say, just let him get used to his surroundings.
I know that Spiny has a fit any time things are changed in his life... Imagine what moving entirely would do!
I free feed Spiny most of the time (he always has food in his dish). But, he always seems to eat the one (and sometimes one and a half) tbs of kibble per night.
Oh, and I figure, if they run, they will get hungry!

I definitely would not take out the wheel. Wheeling helps them relieve stress. I would count his kibble to be sure he is eating enough but for him to poop he has to be putting something in.

I agree! The other day when we were introducing Spiny to his hedgie bag, he got so upset that he decided he needed to wheel (in the middle of the day!!! He doesn't even wheel when he sees moonlight!!)
