Okay, so I went to a local pet store to see if they had Royal Canin. It said on the RC website they did. Well, when I couldn't find it so I asked and they said they don't carry it anymore because the company that makes M&Ms owns it now. Meaning that what happened to Science Diet (being a good food then being taken over by a big company and being turned not so good) is happening to RC. Is this true??? I like this pet store and they know a ton about hedgies (and not just pretend to know, like some pet stores) but is RC really taking a turn for the worse???

I don't think that's true. RC recently took over Technical but I've not heard anything about RC being taken over. I'll ask my daughter. She'd know or can find out.

After some searching, I found out Mars Inc (M&M's, among many other things, manufacturer) does own RC, and apparently that happened in 2002 or something... I found 1 article from Feb. 2002 stating that Mars Inc bought RC. And I found a billion other articles stating that Mars Inc does tests on animals, but even more cruel than some other companies that do tests. So now I don't know what to think. I guess I'll continue to look for RC if we are ever in a new pet store, but Rico will do fine on solid gold, wellness, and CSFTCLS for the time being...

I've never really been overly fond of RC myself. This is just personal opinion, but I think you can find some better foods at a lower price. But then again, I am a married college student with 4 other pets besides my hedgie, so quality AND price are very important to me. Basically, what my cats eat is what my hedgie eats, or at least its a major portion of her mix.

RC is the only thing that Spiny will eat!!
I'm getting really worried that the Natural Balance is making him constipated or something.

Thank goodness Hemi is finally learning to like CSFTCLS, if it's really true about RC. At least I bought a new big bag in August, so I should be good for at least another year.

Well, compared to the other brands you feed him, RC is definitely the weakest link. So, I wouldn't feel too bad if you have to drop it. Nature's Variety is a brand worth checking out if you're looking to put another food in the mix.
