View Full Version : Refusing RC - Other Suggestions?

When I first brought Irwin home, I was giving him RC only so as not to upset his stomach. I've recently introduced CSFTCLS, which he loves. He loves it so much that now he won't eat the RC! I think the size & shape of the RC kibbles might be making them hard for him to eat - I thought from day one that he seemed to be struggling with them. Can anyone suggest a kibble that might be easier for him to chew?

When Vincent was little and had trouble eating his big kibbles, I'd run everything through a coffee grinder. The kibbles were mixed up and chopped small, and as long as you wash the grinder beforehand and afterwards, nobody knew the difference.

I cut Luna's food in half for her when she was little and I cut Isis' food in half for her now. Once Luna got one stuck in her mouth and it freaked me out sooo much. I use these really good Cuisinart scissors. It takes a few minutes but they work and I don't have anything else. :p

I don't like the new shape of the RC. It does seem more difficult for some of them to eat. :)

I don't know the size and shape of RC since I don't use it.
I use 4 different foods in Lucy's mix:
Natural Balance Reduced Calorie Cat Formula (http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/catformulas/RedCalCat.html) - found at Petco and she's able to eat the kibble just fine.
Natural Balance Venison and Green Pea (http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/catformulas/VenCat.html) - found at Petco and she's able to eat the kibble just fine. (She LOVES this stuff)
CSFTCLS
Blue Buffalo Spa Select Lite Cats (http://www.bluebuff.com/products/cats_lite.shtml) - found at PetSmart, I do cut the triangular-shaped kibble in half. The small circles are fine though. (She LOVES this stuff)

I dunno... Here's what I use...
CSFTCLS
Natural Balance Venison and Grean Pea (though when I run out I won't be buying more as it comes is so large bags!)
Wellness
Solid Gold
I don't know which Rico likes best, and I'd do an experiment to see which he eats first, except for the fact that I can't tell the CSFTCLS and the Solid Gold apart... I know none of the wellness is left and a lot of the natural balance is left, and then a whole bunch of X's are left, but I am assuming those are CS as they have lower fat...

The new shape being circles? Hemi seems to eat that alot better than the little Y's or whatever they were before. RC is her first choice over CSFTCLS.

I'm feeling a little dumb right now - it never even occurred to me to cut up the kibbles! I cut up tonight's kibbles and he is happily eating them as I type this. Poor little fella, he's been struggling with those huge kibbles all this time! I think I may have to invest in a coffee grinder for him - between work and school, I don't think I'll have time to cut up all those little pieces every night. I feel like using a coffee grinder would ensure he eats a good mix of everything as well. Thanks for all the suggestions!
I'm also going to go get some Blue Buffalo and Wellness to add to his mix. He's been really receptive to new foods so far!

Oh, awesome! :) You can buy anything from a coffee grinder to a vegetable mincer... anything that will chop up the kibble without sending little bits flying everywhere. Lol!
My boys LOVE Buffalo Blue, by the way. It's an awesome choice.

I just recently found blue buffalo at our petsmart. The boys go crazy for it. They are now on a mix of Royal Canin light 37, Spikes and blue buffalo and they eat the blue buffalo first. I am gradually trying to remove Spikes from my mix since it has to be ordered online.
