Well, after a lot of pleading, I finally got my third boy! His name is Helmet for the time being, and he's a big guy. I don't know how big just yet; I'll be scheduling a vet appointment soon. But he's considerably larger than Vincent and Edmund. When he balls up he's a little bigger than my hand, but uncurled, he has trouble turning around in his igloo.
He was huffy at first, and he's still very twitchy with his movements, but I offered him a mealworm while I set up his cage. He came with a sterilite bin; it doesn't have a top, so I'm still improvising. He was on wood shavings, and I can't tell what cat food he came with, but I threw out all the shavings and put down a big fleece blanket instead. I also stole Edmund's snugglesafe (Ed is in the cage closest to the radiator, and he doesn't seem to enjoy it anyways, although Helmet's is already being shipped).
I've never seen a hedgehog uncurl so fast. I set Helmet on the snugglesafe inside his igloo, and within one minute, he uncurled and began exploring. He seems to REALLY like the snugglesafe... he annointed with it, circled around on it like a dog, and scratched the cover a little bit. Then he finally got brave enough to poke his head outside his igloo. He reached out one big foot, tested the fleece blanket, and then pulled it back. Then he tested it with his other foot, and pulled it back. It took him nearly twenty seconds to figure out it was safe, but now he's playing 'ostrich' with the fleece strips I set out. He's got his head and his butt covered! He's really sweet!

I'm part of a hedgehog forum on livejournal, and someone has a long-eared hedgehog. I figured some of you might be interested! :)

Lastly, I charged my camera's batteries last night and took some pictures of Vincent and Edmund. Ed was playing shy, and kept on ducking inside his hedgiebag, but Vincent was happy to be a camera hog. I've got to figure out how to fix those red-eyes...

Edmund and Vincent are both so cute! Vincent's little pink nose is just too sweet. The long eared hedgie is really cool looking too - love the funny little face! I can't wait to see pictures of Helmet - he sounds adorable.

PrincessPikachu: Click 'post new topic'. On the menu above the typing area, there should be a very small button with an icon of a canvas. Click on that, and a window should pop-up. Enter the picture's URL. :)

Aww, thanks Shetland and AlbertaGirl. :D It's impossible to keep Vincent's quills clean... it's like having an all-white outfit. Of course, I hadn't given him his footbath for the day, so he has his poopboots on. I'd take pictures of Helmet right now except that my camera ran out of batteries. He's stretched out on his snugglesafe, just ASKING to have his picture taken.
