I went to Petcetera today, looking to see if they had the new shipment in so I could buy some food on sale, but yet again they were out of stock. I found 2 other kinds that seem alright from what I've read on here, but not sure if I'm understanding everything good because I havent seen either kind on any of the forums. I got a bag of Eukanuba Indoor Formula, the bag says no less that 30% protein, and 12% to 14.5 % fat. This seems alright from what I've read are the requirements for a cat food. The first 5 ingredients are chicken, chicken by-product meal, chicken liver, corn grits, corn meal. Meat is the main ingredients, that's good isn't it? :dunno: I'm just wondering if this is a good food for my hedgehog, which I haven't got quite yet, but soon, very soon! Any comments would be helpful :sunrise:

Hello,

I feed Eukanuba chicken and rice formula along with Royal Canin Slim. But for the longest time I fed only Eukanuba (along with mealies, fruit, and veggies).

So feeding Eukanuba for now is not bad.

It's not the best. Sure you can use it, and it's better than Iams and some of the lower brands, but if you can find some better ones, please do. http://www.chins-n-quills.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93744
You can see if there's a retailer near you on most of the companies' sites.
I have CSFTCLS, Wellness, Solid Gold, and Natural Balance in my mix. These are some of the better ones. Royal Canin is a mediocre, and Eukanuba is below Royal Canin, but not as bad as some others... And you want a mix of 2 or more, and if you're using Eukanuba I'd plan on having at least 3. As with food for any pet, by products are never a good sign of high quality food...

Thanks!:) I just got off the phone with the breeder I'm getting my hedgie from next weekend. He doesn't have any of the salt and peps left:( only albinos.. which for the longest time freaked me out (had nightmares of albino rats and rabbits as a kid, scary red eyes!) But I don't know... I'm hoping I can fall in love with an Albino hedgie. The guy really know his stuff, and the hedgies are surprisingly cheap ($40!cdn) I'm getting a female albino hedgie:) and someday soon, I hope, a salt and pepper female, wanted one for the longest time!

I'm in agreement with freznow. Eukanuba isn't terrible, but it leaves much to be desired. I use a rotation of Chicken Soup, Natural Balance, and Solid Gold with freeze dried and roasted insects with good results. (I like Wellness too, but it can be hard to find in my area.) Just avoid brands such as Science Diet like the plague and you should be okay.
