Hi.....my name is Amanda and I am proud new mommy of Chewy!!!! I looked for a hedgie high and low for what felt like forever.........my boyfriend finally got sick of me going on and on about a hedgie that he just offered to pay whatever it cost to get one!!(awww aint that sweet lol) He is going on 10 weeks old now and is a cute little bundle of joy!! I will hopefully have pictures of him in due time.....:) and just to let anyone know that i think I have a really good hedgie diet here...see my mom's neighbor tried to kill baby starlings and my mom took them in. well starlings are omnivores and insectivores and in order to get them what they need my mom makes them a homemade diet of........

Boiled or baked chicken cut up into small pieces
Purina cart chow cat food (softened)
1 boiled egg cut up
2 tablespoons of applesauce
and about 1/5 of a teaspoon of bird amino vitamins (you can get these anywhere for about a dollar
anyways you mash it all up with a potato masher and your hedgie will love it.....i add it to chewy's hedgie food..trying to make sure he gets everything he needs in his diet because I know that if they don't it can be very dangerous.

I also give him veggies and other stuff such as cornbread and and some baked salmon for his omega 3 that I was told he needed. He also really likes baked chicken livers...ewwwww....lol well it is really nice to join a forum...I am new at this but was just so excited to have a hedgie I wanted to share it with the world.....I am sure I will enjoy my stay here and thanks for any comments in advanced....!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be sure that he's getting some hard cat food, too. If hedgehogs are anything like other pets, they need to keep those teeth healthy by crunching on kibbles.
You might also want to check out the following thread. :) It's very helpful for thinking up appropriate hedgie treats.

Congratulations on the new hedgehog! I know how exciting it is.

Congratulations! I hope you have fun with your new pet - and don't forget to show some pictures!

This website is also a great resource for all things hedgehog, and you can find some links to other sites as well if you surf around here a bit. :)
