This is probably a stupid question, but how often does one replenish the food bowl? I don't want to let the food go stale and I just read in another conversation that a full bowl doesn't mean anything, because the chin could just be leaving the nub of pellet. Does one dump a full bowl of food each day?

I just put so much in the bowl so that Chibi eats most of it. So alittle less than two tbsp each night. Cuz she eats the most at night. Then I'll dump the nubs and crumbs in the morning and put alittle bit in the bowl (around one tblsp)

So all together she eats about two tablespoons in 24 hours

we free feed our chins and by that i mean we basically know how much each cage eats in a day, so every morning and every nite we fill food bowls but anything left in the bowls is dumped in the trash, which usually isnt much, but we have some chins that will go through a full cup of food between each filling and others that only eat a half cup, but we keep track of what each cage eats and fill accordingly, with 20+ cages and 32+ chins we are actually wasting less food,if i where you i would start with say a 1/3 cup of food say you start tonite and as the days go by you can pretty much tell how much food is enough, and you can adjust how much you place in his bowl accordingly and within a week you should be able to fill his bowl twice a day morning and evening, and make sure you do it same time every day, after a week you will have less waste and not have to worry about stale food. and the biggest benefit will be the fact that if he ever gets sick and all of a sudden he stops eating or just changes his intake you will have an idea that maybe he is sick or something just isnt right with him

I have just one chin and I fill her bowl about half way (about 2 tbsp, though I never measured), and I usually just dump a few pellets in the morning, wash the dish, and refill. Some days she leaves more than others and once in awhile she actually finishes it all.

I have two food bowls becasue I noticed when I had one both of them would go to it and one would get mad, so now i have two.. but i put 2 tbsp on both and end up emptying maybe a teaspoon of nubbies. lol. but i change it daily.

I do the same as most. I always make sure there's plenty of food to eat, sometimes I have more or less to dump, usually depends on what kind of mood my girl is in that day ;)

I fill my chinnie bowls up every evening. I dump the old and fill with new. I figured if they didn't eat it the first time around, they aren't going to eat the second time around. My bowls hold roughly 3/4 cup of pellets
