Yes, and yes! Good girl! Think, even if you have to put $400 into "part" and a seamstress.... you're still WAY ahead! Super decision!
One thing that dress shops love is that new bride who finds "that" dress... if they can lower the price $300 for you to buy it sooner... they must be making a LOT off the dress.
Usually the bunching is a few stitches and not much to take out. A good seamstress should be able to whip that into the dress you want without too much problem. It might not be "exactly" the same, it might be BETTER! And if you want something sparkley on the bust, I bet she/he could add that in easily too!

That's what I was thinking:
-Add lace at the top of the bodice
-Wrap sash (the way that it is in the picture); if not, just a simple sash, but I'd really like the detachable train.
-Shorten the train for sure.

I can't see exactly HOW the... "bow train" attaches, but I would think if you brought the sash around and put "tails" there it would be VERY easy to make a detachable train that just attaches underneath of it... if that doesn't make a lick of sense let me know and I'll put up a sketch. Do you have a picture of the whole back of the dress you like? I'm assuming that maybe if you do it involves your rear sticking out since you said the dress was too small of a size! ;) :p Whihc is possibly why you didn't post one! Do you know who the dress is by? Maybe we could find a picture on the web!!!
We're here to help you girly girl! I'll be Ms. Cheap As..... Buns.. :)
Ms. Exactly what I want, Ms. Sensible will be here soon! Okay, I need to try to get some sleep, this new sleeping medicine isn't helping any...

Over on my thread jwm suggested a place called Pearl's Place in Louisiana that might be helpful in this situation if you can't find a good seamstress to overhaul that simple dress. Check them out on their website, or maybe talk to jwm about it. I'm glad you're trying to find a cheaper way to get this dress. It does look very nice on you, but when I read that price I nearly died! Don't get me wrong, if you've got the money, go for it, but if not... alternative routes to a similar dress are definately the way to go.

I think I understand, the detachable train hooks UNDER the sash right? And the sash goes all the way around the back (well LOOKS like it does, of course you have the zipper)?
If so that should be really easy to adjust for a seasoned seamstress.
Ask you local bridal or tux shops for the names of some people who do alterations, a lot of times you can find one who works out of their home and does it rather reasonable!

You're right, that's exactly how it works.
I sure hope I can do this!

Oh my dear, it's all in the bag now! What you are getting on e-bay is your "shell", kind of like a... cardboard box for your treasures, now you just have to decorate it! Like a cake!
That train as a detachable train is actually much easier than a "normal" detachable train, much simplier lines, less fabric.
Start calling for your seamstresses and get some price quotes, I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised! Remember call a couple, and if you find one you like more, but is a little higher say welll, I really would like you to do it, but I have someone who quoted me six turtles instead of 8 turtles to do it... she may stand firm, but she'll most likely cut you a little break. :)
I'm such a dork, now I'M all excited about your dress!

Haha, I like that you're excited about it, it makes me feel a lot more confident in attempting this project.
Plus, I think I'll be a MILLION times more attached to this dress, as opposed to continuing to look for newer, better dresses.
I just hope this dress that I'm getting is the exact fabric I want :)
