Goat milk is better for both, if you are supplementing. If you are hand raising, please contact me privately. I will give you all the info you need. I DO NOT SUGGEST hand raising.

I agree goat milk is all natural and the replacer milk reminds me of something from Dupont Chemical. But that is just a first impression.

why would an adult need either? And, unless hand raising, babies don't need either.

I'm not hand raising.
However, I had an experience that my hedgie dead during she had three babes with an unknown reason. Yesterday, I thought of her and I thought that I should have any idea if I or other owner in Thailand have encounter such situation again.
For an adult, I think milk is a good source of nutrition, and I know that cow milk is not good for HH. So, I think of other which may be good for their health.

If you are handraising, here is a recipe for an effective hedgie formula that my exotics vet gave me when i happened to be handraising a hoglet:
Esbilac Puppy Milk Replacer
A SMALL amount of human Lactaid dietary supplement like 1/4 of a tablet, if that
That's all. It worked pretty well for the time that I had the baby, so if that's what you're looking for, then this is a good route to go. If you are planning on fedding to an adult, I really wouldn't recommend giving him or her milk. There are much better treats out there. Mine likes a little bit of natural peanut butter and she also likes several fruit baby foods.

I think milk is a good source of nutrition
Milk is not a good source of nutrition for hedgehogs. No milk of any kind should be given to weaned animals and the type milk used for hand feeding needs to be very carefully chosen and reactions to lactose need to be assessed, since all milk has lactose.

If nutrition is what your concerned about, then I suggest you add crickets or mealworms as a treat and not milk. Seeing as hedgehogs ARE insectivores, these would make a more appropriate treat. If anything, most babyfoods such as chicken, beef, peaches or applesauce are also good choices. And like i said, mine likes natural peanut butter and apples. These all would make much better, more nutritious treats for your hedgie.

as said, if you want to supplement your hh diet, mealworks and crickets are the perfect choice. Take a look at the Dos and Don't threads in this forum and you'll see what fruits and vegies are ok.
