yesterday I was not feeling well so I layed down on my bed. Charlie was fine he was jumping around like he always does. I saw him trying to get out so I decided to pick him up and play with him. I ran out of chinchilla food the day before so i was feeding them hay until my mom got home so i could get them some chinchilla food. My mom got home then I ran out of my room to ask her to go to the store. She said hold on Julie just let me do something real quick I said okay. I went in the living room to watch tv until she was done. She was taking a long time so I was like mom hurry up. She was taking like 2 hrs. So I went to her and she was like okay lets go so I said hold on let me see what else they need so you wont have to keep going back up to the store. So i ran in my room and it looked like he was sleeping then normally when it looks like they are sleeping I hit the cage just to make sure they are okay. So I hit the cage then he didnt move. Then I poked him and he didnt move. So I just screamed at the top of my lungs then yelled "mom come here I think Charlie is dead". My mom ran in my room and she said sorry to tell you julie but he is dead. I really miss him. He was the first chinchilla we ever got. Actually he was my sisters and we got him on 4th of july about 4 years ago. My sister Jennifer had to go off to collage and she couldnt take him with her so she gave him to me. Well my mom had to work today so I cant burry him today but I made him a plaque that says "Best Chin Ever, Charlie" and we are going to burry him tomorrow. I know I have to let go but I just cant. I know I should try helping my other two chins Nala and Andy get over it too but I need some help Does anyone have any advice on how to get over losing a chin?

I am sorry for your loss Julie.. however, I have had animals on hay before for a couple of days, and most chinchillas at shows go 2 or 3 days on little or no hay.. I cannot concieve how he passed after only eating hay for a day without pellets.. could anything else have caused his passing?

I am also sorry for your loss, but I agree, I dont think it was from not giving him pellets for a day. Is there any other possible answer for him passing? Again, sorry for your loss:(

I also agree that it probably wasn't from not eating pellets...maybe something got into your hay and contaminated it?

So sorry for your loss...I'll make sure Wilbur helps him cross the rainbow bridge!

It really is hard to get over the loss of a chinchilla. I lost my first little girl and it took a really long time to even be able to talk about her without crying. I was lucky enough to find a chin that needed to be rescued and needed me. She helped to mend my broken heart. It is still hard, but I know that Chili is in heaven and is happy that Roxy is here with me now.
