the woman down the street from my mom knocked starlings out of their nest. They were only 3 days old and my mom took them in and found out that starlings are insectivores. Well, this was like 7 months ago and I got a hedgie almost 3 weeks ago and hedgie's are insectivores...so this is what I have found to be a really good diet and it keeps away the dry skin and everything too......lol it's my mom's starling diet...

here's the recipe....

baked chicken breast (cut up in as small pieces as you can)
your choice of cat food (softened)
boiled egg
your hedgie's favorite veggie chopped up (I use baby corn, but im sure any will work)
you can also add non sweetened applesauce if you like, or any other fruit your hedgie likes.....i'm still looking for a fruit mine likes lol

mix up the chicken breast, cat food, boiled egg, and vegetable in a bowl. and your fruit if you have it.....just mix and serve....put in fridge when you're done..or freeze and thaw out as you use it....

just make sure you give it some hard cat food everyday to keep its teeth strong and of course some treats (meal worms, crickets, whatever yours like) Hope you enjoy this recipe!! I know my hedgie does....he's obsessed with it lol

oh and you can also put some baked salmon or tuna in it too along with the ckicken..but not much...I prefer to give mine its fish on the side!!!!

thanks!!!

Mine doesn't like egg... if it were all watermelon he'd eat it though! It sounds interesting, but I am wondering what portions, and stuff like that, and if the hog eats all the chicken but little of the cat food and veggie, then they're not getting a balanced diet... and we know so little... but it seems a neat thing to try, and experiment with different meats and veggies... but I'd always keep the cat foods as the main part...

well you can mix it to whatever portions you think are best for your hedgie....and my hedgie eats every part :)

avocado, boiled egg, crickets, mealworms, apple, cat food, yogurt.... chicken, (one likes the canned stuff, the other won't touch it, but I feed it only in moderation cause it's kinda high in sodium...) fresh water always... banana, baby carrots,

Your diet has too little fiber, too few nutrients, too much sugar, lack of Vitamin A, little or no calcium, little or no micronutrients and too much protein.

I suggest you feed your hedgehog a proper HEDGEHOG diet and not a bird diet.
