just wanted to introduce mysef, I recently got my first chin, his name is Gus and he is a standard( I think) male. I am a 19 year old university student, trapped in the city but used to being on the farm with lots of pets (2 dogs 3 cats and a bunch of horses!) I was missing my pets a lot and decided I need something for my apartment, I live with my sister who is allergic to basically everything so my options were limited. I saw a chin somebody else had and I fell in love with them! I decided they were the pet I had to have. We have no breeders around here so I looked at pet stores and found that they were TOTALLY out of my broke university student price range, but then I found one for sale for $20! A lady had bought him as a pet for her kids and the kids didnt want him anymore, so now he is my baby! Bought him a new cage and a bunch of toys and he is much happier now! He looks a lot better than when I got him, the lady was just feeding him rabbit food and letting him take baths in corn starch and he had this tiny little cage :hammer: now he is much happier and already looks healthier! Nice to meet you all and this is a great forum I LOVE seeing the pics of everybody's chins!!! I will add pics soon :hearts:

I was always wondering if anyone else feed the Forti-diet kaytee brand pellets to their chin?

Welcome to Chins-n-Quills!

You will find that a lot of people here detest Kaytee products in general. Most members here feed Mazuri, Tradition, APD, or Oxbow. That is all I can think of at the moment.

Here is a link you may find helpful: http://www.chins-n-quills.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66527. It is from our Diet and Nutrition FAQ section.

OMG that sounds like awful conditions for a chinnie. Glad that you rescued the little one.

I agree with Chinmama.... I feed Mazuri pellets with Oxbow Timothy Hay. Some don't feed treats, some do (it's a debate on here). If you have to feed a treat, cheerios our non sugar covered shredded wheat is good.

Search the forums and you will find wonderful info. for your new little one and when you get a chance post some pictures!

Oh and by the way, WELCOME to the forum!!!!
