Hello!
Recently, we attempted to adopt a pair of Chins from a woman on "Freecycle" who was giving them away, claiming her child was allergic to them.
My husband, four children, and myself have been wanting a Chin for a very long time, so we applied to adopt them. The woman emailed me back, told me they were ours and to let her know when we could come get them. That was on November 2nd. My kids (and us adults too) were so excited to finally be getting not just one, but two chins to call our own! We started planning on all the things we wanted to buy for them to spoil them and welcome them into their new home.
My husband and I have done a lot of reading and research on them, and with having all the experience with various pets that we have, felt very qualified to be their new "parents".
Well, the woman kept emailing us telling us that a certain day wasn't good for her...or that her son was having trouble saying goodbye (which I totally understand, but she made such a big deal out of having to rid of them ASAP due to her daughter's illness) so I was quite confused. She then told us we could get them on the weekend. I emailed her several times to attempt to get them and got nothing in return. Finally, last night I ran into a fellow Freecycler who told me that this same woman had apparently promised the Chins to at least two OTHER families on Freecycle. I was shocked! I sent her another email then, telling her how confused I was at her actions and how she had promised the Chins to us and that this was emotionally hard on my children who had been promised new playmates and basically demanded an explination. This morning, I had a very nasty and confusing email from her saying she never promised them to anyone but me (even though I saw proof showing otherwise) and that due to my attitude at saying she was upsetting our family that she had decided to just keep them.
Talk about confusion! So now, here we are...chinchilla-less and disappointed. Another Freecycler advised that I should join this group and look under the Wanted and Chin Rescue sections and see if anyone had a Chin that needed a good home and to tell our story in this forum.
If anyone can help us out in anyway, it will be very appreciated!
Many thanks for reading this long and confusing experience.
Sincerely,
