Teens with Cell phones

What do you peeps out there think about Teens having a cell phone. Many peeps at my school have them including me. But some people think that they arn't any good for teens. I like them cause when I go out or am at a sporting event then I can easily get ahold of my parents. I think that they are a good thing! What do you all think???

I hope you don't mind an 'older' person replying to this poll. ;) I think this poll is a very good one Cutey Chin. It is funny you brought this up because I was talking to my sister a couple weeks ago and my nephew started his first year of high school. She told me the high school does not allow pagers or cell phones. I asked her if she would ever think about letting my nephew have a cell phone to use outside of school and she outright told me, "There is no need for teens to have cell phones or pagers because it only causes trouble". :confused: I asked her what if my nephew needs to get in contact with her or my brother-in-law when he is outside of school and she said that is what pay phones are for. Personally, I think it is good for teens to either have a pager or cell phone in case of an emergency. Pay phones can be a pain in the arse because they aren't always accessible and sometimes don't work. I think if you trust your children, there shouldn't be an issue with cell phones or pagers. Just my thoughts......

I voted YES, of course, cuz i have one. I couldnt live without it. I call all my friends and my parents when i go out and everything. It is so great. I keep going over my minutes though, so i'm kinda in trouble, whoops! But other then that its great! :rolleyes:

Hope you don't mind me replying to this .... as I'm not a teen...

I think it's good that people of all ages have access to mobile phones or pagers. My husband and I both have one, and my 10 year old daughter has access to a mobile phone when she goes to the local stables on a Saturday....we bought a second hand phone - a "Pay as you go", so that we can put say, £5 worth of credit on the phone, and she only uses it when she needs fetching from the stables. We also use it to contact her to let her know if we're going to be a bit late fetching her etc.

Some people tut at us for allowing her to have one, but it's not something that she carries around everywhere, or takes to school. I feel better knowing that she can contact me, or we can contact her....there is a phone at the stables, but I have called there before to give her a message, and it's not been passed on...so I prefer her to have the mobile....

So yes, I think they're invaluable...

I don't mind having "older" people respond.
Last night it was poring down rain and there was a storm so the entire football team and chearleaders had to go into the school. Well...the power went out and there was no way to get a hold of my parents except to use my cell phone. It helped to have a cell phone so my parents could keep track of me. They are very very helpful. and some schools don't have pay phones.
I have had my for about 3-4 years now. And my parents don't regret it!

Aww, thanks Cutey Chin!! I sometimes think my sister is a little too strict with my nephew and we have different views on certain things. Maybe I have no right to say anything because I am not a parent but I think I can relate to teens and remember how things were when I was a teenager.

I think its fine for teens to have cell phones...I have one. I love my cell phone. My parents like me having a cell phone too, if they don't know where I am they can just call me, or I can call them if I'm running late or need a ride home or whatever. I call my friends a lot from it too...they are so helpful sometimes!

i think mobie/cell phones are good, i have one and i take it every where with me so my mom and dad can get hold of me at any time.

the number one reason for a teen to get a cell phone is for emergencies. i think teen should have cell phones. and around here, all the punks break all the pay phones so a cell phone is a necessity. in japan there is no one WITHOUT a cell phone. seriously. thats why pay phones are dissapearing there..lol

I have one, too.

I just got it, and I LOVE it. My mom feels better about letting me out at night, and if something happens I feel safer knowing I can get ahold of someone.

Plus, it's all purple and sparkly. I love my Nokia Faceplates! :laugh:
