View Full Version : My goodness, can we please proof-read our posts?

I can't help but notice that posters who have no concept of punctuation, proper capitalization or spelling tend to be the ones that are the most difficult to deal with.
I would just like to say as a general plea/piece of advice (not directed at anyone in particular) please take a moment and think about how your words represent you on this forum. If your words are hard to read and are poorly formed, people are automatically going to respond more negatively to your posts. It's almost subconscious - like, oh they can't form a sentence, they're ignorant. Even if you're a genius, if you don't represent yourself well, people are going to prejudge you. Why make things more difficult when all you have to do is punctuate, capitalize correctly and spellcheck?
I am by no means a great writer and I don't sit here with a style guide as I type out my posts but I do reread what I've written before I hit send to make sure my threads make some sense. I also use spell check! Imagine that.

Thanks for letting me vent... I will now eat, shoots and leaves.

Oh man I love that book ( I know you meant to write 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves').

:applause: :applause: I agree...did you happen to see Nicole's thread on the 3-day experiment?
Using such internet slang as "wat's" "evry1"
the single letter "r" or "ur" as substitution for the words "are" or "your (you're)"
How about CAPITALIZATION and PUNCTUATION people?? Is it really THAT difficault to do??? Especially with some of the younger posters...we would REALLY give you a little more respect if you could possibly attempt to make your posts readable.

I thought about writing 'eats' but it sounded funny as an action "I will now eats, shoots and leaves." So I opted for "I will now eat, shoots and leaves."

i don't understand what you mean do you not like when all the sentences run together and have no meaning at all and make absolutely no sense because i find those are my very favorite posts to read especially when you mix in all the internet slang like nancy posted above which i have tried to write but can't because i just can't seem to mangle all my words that well even when i try and instead i come off looking like my keyboard is missing a few keys instead of being funny my friend steph can do it really well and will have you falling out of your chair laughing maybe what we need is more emoticons to make up for words that way peple can just insert them into their sentences instead and it will at least look cute while you are trying to read through it
Wow. You have no idea how hard that was. My fingers kept gravitating towards the period key as well as the shift key for capitalization. I agree, and everybody knows I'm the posting nazi on this, it takes two seconds to make your post readable. Anymore, when I see all this gibberish of internet speak and run together words, I don't even read the post. I don't have the time to decipher this stuff for 20 minutes just to find out what the poster was talking about.

Reading this just my made my morning! I always read my posts, before I hit submit. There are posts on here I can't stand to read because of their wording choice, run on sentences (more like paragraphs), or when they don't put capitalization where needed.

I agree with everyone here. Sometimes I start to read a post and can't understand it totally. Sometimes when the spelling and/or grammer isn't great, I tend to look at the location of the poster and take that into consideration. I am not trying to offend anyone, that is just what I notice. It may help that where I work we have a techician from Portugal and since I do the billing, I am forever having to decipher what he means.
