Uh oh! Is this bad?

I'm really worried. (like always) Sonic jumped out of my hand and dropped about 40-30 cm to the carpet. I heard that even if they drop 10 cm they could break their spine. He seems okay, but I'm worried. He's acting normal but don't hedgehogs hide pain/illness?

The best way to know for sure if he is okay is to take him to the vet and probably get some x-rays done. I hope he is alright.

Keep a close watch on him for the next few weeks and if anything seems out of the ordinary get him to the vet. Often falls seem to have caused no outward injury but they have sustained internal injuries that show up in a few days or a week later.

There was a hedgehog just recently on HHC that had fallen and seemed fine but a week later was attempting hibernation and died soon after. I'm betting it had sustained internal injuries from the fall.

There was nothing at all wrong with your reply. When in doubt, take the pet to the vet. Unfortunately, internal injuries can't often be detected in a regular vet examination.

Everybody should live by that. But I was just saying, our posts were totally different, I know there is no wrong in taking a pet to the vet even at the slightest sneeze, but I don't want to give incorrect information seeing as I know nothing about hedgehogs. As you said, "internal injuries can't often be detected in a regular vet examination", I actually didn't know that. I hope he is going to be alright... :cry2:
