So after about a week of introducing the girls to each other's scent by switching out hedgie bags and such... we let the girls have some playtime today. We brought them outside since it was beautiful, and a neutral area, and put them inside the large outdoor play pen.

Well... Nuance could care less that there was someone else in the pen with her. She sat and just looked around. Fray ran laps around the pen pushing with her nose and trying to find a weak spot to get out (you know.. like the raptors in Jurassic Park?). They sniffed each other, and really didn't do much.

Then Nuance got in the way of Fray's running and Fray ran OVER Nuance... Nu just puffed up and hid her head and Fray kept running. We took Nu out for awhile and cuddled her, Fray kept running and trying to get out. Then we took Fray out and Nu decided that it was time to explore and she sniffed all around where Fray had been.

I have some pictures and some video that I can try to upload later. There was no aggression or biting or anything... Just each little girl trying to do what she does best....

Haha. Fray sounds like Peaches. Peaches would never let anyone get in her way. She'd walk right over them.

Kismet does that. She’s gone so far as to flip the other hedgehog over to get where she wants to go. She’s a big girl, so she uses that to her advantage.

Sounds like a pretty sucessful first meeting. :) Fray sounds like she was on a mission, I love when they are like that.

Yeah... Fray doesn't let ANYTHING get in her way... she runs, crawls, climbs over everything... she is VERY active... Her personality is SO different than Nu.

Nuance is very chill and relaxed... Fray, on the other hand, is active and on the go. She snuggled with me for a good long time the other night (we gave her a bath... she was pretty good) and that was the longest that she let me hold her.. about 45 minutes.

We'll do another introduction tomorrow.

Oh cute! I wish I was able to have more than one hedgie right now so Sadie could have a play friend (female obviously. I'm not ready to be raising a whole bunch of hoglets...though I wish I was... I loves them!!!!!)

I wouldn't call it a "play" friend... we have to see how they do with each other...

Update: The girls are both in the playpen curled up next to each other. Fray was in the pool first and was all curled up hiding. We put Nu in... and she moved over and sniffed Fray a few times and curled up next to her... they are both curled up, not moving much... just sitting very close with quills semi up... but no one is doing anything... occasionally Rob will cough and Nuance will look up, but Fray doesn't really move.

I'm staying optimistic... Nuance wanted to cuddle more, and Fray started huffing and puffing so we took Nuance out for a while... but they were pretty good! They "cuddled" for about 20-30 minutes with no problems.
