Last night I was reading with Buddy on my lap, alternating between turning pages and petting him as he lay halfway underneath his stuffed teddy bear. Suddenly I felt him move a little, and as I looked down he turned his head out so I could see it, opened his mouth a little, and stuck his tongue out at me! He held it that way for a second (looking right at me and not licking his lips or anything), then put it back in and stuffed his head under Teddy again. It was SO cute! It was like he was imitating my teasing humor with my husband (I often do the same thing, lol...). :neener: I wish I'd gotten a photo!
On another upside, he seems really comfortable with me after just a couple of weeks. He almost never balls up with me, and most of the time he's totally relaxed. He even lets me pet his ears and hold his legs (in preparation for nail-trimming time!). He continues to amaze me with his social skills, both with me and with others (though he's def. a momma's boy! :teehee:).
Anyway, just thought I'd share the story. Does anyone else have cute stories about hedgies with huge personalities/attitudes?

LOL, that is so funny!!!
Puff generally has a 'tude, but hasn't ever stuck her tongue out at me, lol (she's just very huffy and throws tantrums via trashing her cage when she's not happy). But it did remind me of a funny thing she does. Whenever I talk to her (anytime she's out of her cage, of course!) she will look at me and open and close her mouth a bunch...like she see that when I move my mouth, something comes out and she's trying to do the same! :lovies:

Lol! That is so cute! It would be awesome to see on a video... maybe you could lipsync it and record responses for her!
Thanks for sharing this! Who wants to be next?

LOL, that's a good idea! Once I find my camera cord (ha), maybe I will do just that! She did it again last night (she does it everytime I talk to her! No lip smacking/licking, just opening and closing repeatedly. And she looks quite calm when she does it, too- most definitly not trying to swallow or clear something from her mouth or anything...just a very calm open/close!)...it really is quite silly, because I truly believe she is trying to talk. :D
Also, I have another silly quirk of hers...which I forgot about until the other night, when I made the disaterous mistake ( ) of applying a certain lotion that she hates (evidently). Which isn't unusual- a lot of hedgies don't like new/certain smells and such. But the silly thing is, it's a "calming" lotion! :p It's some aromatherapy lotion to help you relax with lavender and vanilla. She's normally rather skittish, so you'd think this would have a nice calming effect...but it agitates her to no end! (and I know I've heard of other people placing lavender packets near hedgie cages to calm them- makes me afraid to try Rescue Remedy- she's so backwards and wacky, she'll probably turn into the Incredible Hulk! LOL!). I noticed this the first couple times I used that lotion (months ago), so then I was careful to only use it at night, after I played with her. But the other night, I went swimming, showered, and then couldn't find my regular lotion and my skin was really dry, so I used that one (honestly, totally forgetting it would cause a hissy-fit by "the princess," lol). I was soon reminded. She was a big huff-ball the whole time she was out and was attempting to bite at my legs (where I put the lotion) and kept trying to run off the bed and if I so much as moved an inch she would ball up and huff angrily at me...it was a short playtime. What a production! :p

Laika sticks her tongue out at me almost every day. She'll stretch all 4 paws out like Super-hog or something, and then open her mouth extra wide and stick her tongue straight out. sometimes I swear her tongue sticks out over and inch out of her mouth! It is one HUGE hedgie yawn!
