So.. I was thinking that I MIGHT get another hedgehog as a friend for Halo.. I would like to hear others experiences introducing 2 hedgehogs. It would be a female of course (Halo is a female) Do they not always get along? Should I introduce them first before adopting one.. I don't know what to do.. I don't want to rescue/adopt one and then they don't get along. If they did get along they would each need their own wheel, food/water dish, and igloo right?

Also remember that having 2 requires double everything, double the time, cages, wheels, cleaning and sometimes vet bills (having two sick at once can be HARD). Even if they do get along you should have multiples of those items anyway. You'll need it during a quarantine period, and will likely need it at some point in the future in case one gets sick or hurt. Not all females will get along, and sometimes those that do in the beginning won't later.
Having two can be great, but don't do it because Halo needs a friend, do it because you want a second and have the time to commit to both. Halo doesn't need a friend Hedgehogs are solitary animals in the wild and she'll do fine by herself. If you haven't had her for very long, spend your time with her and really get to know her. Her bond with you will grow.

Yes, if you decide to get a second you will definitely need 2 of everything. Even if your hogs get along at first, sometimes they change their minds and don't want a cagemate anymore. They're very fickle about friendship! :)

I think Kalandra got it covered. If you don't want to adobt if they don't get along, then don't get another one.

Thanks for the replies! You are right. I shouldn't get another one.. I just thought Halo would like a friend.. but if she is fine by herself then that is good. Halo is my first hedgie and she is only 5 months old. I will concentrate on her and give her all my love.:D
Have a good weekend everyone! :thumbsupwink:

I know you already said you think Halo will do fine alone. But I woud like to add in case you change your mind or if anyone else is reading this.. Do NOT introduce them first before buying another. The new one should go into quarantine for 30 days before ANY introduction. You do not want to expose Halo to any new diseases or germs she isnt used to.
