Looking for recipe ideas. I've never made a roast in the crock pot but I bought one and thought I'd cook it up this weekend. I'd like to add potatoes, carrots, celery, maybe mushrooms.

I have beef broth, cream of mushroom soup and onion soup mix on hand if that helps.

I normaly just do my pot roast on the stove. Sear both sides and add a cup of water and half a packed of onion soup mix. Let simmer for about 45 minutes. Flip and add 1/2 - 3/4 cup of water and the rest of the soup mix. Let simmer for 30 minutes. Perfect pot roast every time!

(I hope someone has a cool crockpot recipe because then I don't have to do the flipping and timing and extra adding)

I had a really good slow cooker potroast recipe that I can't find any more :( I can say that I don't like the cream of mushroom based recipes - I prefer using canned tomatoes and sometimes with wine for the base.

Let me start by saying that I don't know how! ;) But I would think you could just put the roast and the vegetables in the pot, then add enough beef broth (and maybe even the onion mix, if you're feeling wild) to at least halfway cover the roast and just..."set it and forget it?" I would think it would be tasty (and would cook thoroughly- you'd essentially be boiling the meat, which would make it tender and juicy, I would think)...but like I said, I don't know what I'm doing in that department, lol! But that's what I would do if I were to "wing it." :)

This is how I do it. I put the vegies in first so they are on the bottom. Put about a half a cup of water in whatever soup mix you want to use, I prefer the onion soup mix. You could even use both onion soup mix and the mushroom soup. YUM. Put the pot roast on top of the vegetables then pour the soup mix over the pot roast and cook.

I would add more vegetables, though.

I made it with 1/2 cup water and the onion soup mix and it was great! I was just worried, since I've never made it in the crock pot before, how it might turn out. I will make this again, for sure.

I crockpot my pot roasts more than I make them in the oven anymore. But I must say the vegies are better oven roasted but the meat is better crockpotted.

I agree.

It's just too hot here to have the oven on for any extended period of time. And, we worked in the yard for most of the day yesterday, so I was too tired to cook anything once we came in. Crock pots are so handy (once you figure out how to cook in them!)
