okay, my mom bought my hedgehog a thing called ediblelogz, its made from alfalfa, honey, and pine. I was just making sure if it was okay to put in her cage?
and also, I saw a container of hedgehog treats at the pet store and wasnt sure if it was bad for them like hedgehog food is.
if someone could help me out that would be great. Thanks!

A general rule of thumb is that anything you see in the pet store that says it's for hedgehogs is probably bad for them. Sad but true.

alright. thats what i thought on the treat thing, but i thought the edible log would be fine..would it?
Its not FOR them, its for rats, gerbils, hampsters, etc.
I wasnt sure if i should put it in her cage or not.
I'm picking up my baby on the 13th and i'm excited, picking out things tostick in her cage but now I'm at the point I can barely fit a wheel xD
needs more arranging. >_>

I don't think its a good idea to feed the edible log
Not only have i never heard of pine or alfalfa being fed to hedgehogs (its probably not harmful in itself), i think that there may be too much honey in there for it to be healthy. My guess is the alfalfa and pine is held together in a log shape by hardened honey?
While i have given diluted honey to my hogs as a way to get them to take bad tasting medicine, i don't think giving it as a treat is a good idea. I am not sure about rats but i would not even feed that treat to hamsters or gerbils, even in small amounts sweet things can easily give small animals diabetes.
Why feed when it is not necessary for your hog in any way, and could potentially be bad for it.
When in doubt i would play it safe.

I did a search and the ingredients are
pine wood, shavings, cassava starch, alfalfa, sodium alginate, potassium sorbate, propionic acid, honey, glycerin, and propylene glycol
It would appear that this is not a regular consumable treat but a 'chew'
Hedgies are not rodents, and so unlike many rodents do not 'chew' or need to do so to maintain the health of their teeth.
Rodents teeth keep growing throughout their lives and they need to chew to help wear them down.
Hedgies teeth do not grow continuously and if they break or chip, they will not grow back.
Rodents don't always swallow what they chew ( i am not 100% clear on how that works) so to have wood shavings in the treat would probably be ok,
whereas hedgehogs would actually most likely actually try to swallow this if it tasted good to them
For this reason, i would not give them the edibleogz
The wood shavings in the ediblogs would cause intestinal blockage (no laughing matter) if the hedgie consumed them.

I agree with Cimredopyh. I used to have them before I knew they were bad (for my chins) and they get extremely slimy and nasty when wet. I would not put that in my heggie's cage, it would make a mess, and could hurt them if ingested. Stay away from pet stores in general if you can!

No, it isn't safe for hedgehogs. There was someone a while back whose hedgehog severely injured it's mouth from licking at the rough surface. In this case it was the house with the straw roof but it's the same thing basically. I wouldn't risk it.

It's not really good for chin so my bet (who seems to me right) is that's it isn't for hedgies.
