I dropped Allie and Ashes off at the vet this morning to have their teeth trimmed. It was the first time either had been through this. They gave them both a medication to calm them down, as they were both stressed. They said as soon as the medication went in Ashes, she stopped breathing and there was nothing they could do. They said they tried everything to get her back. I have cried all day. It was so unexpected. I know she is in a better place, but it hurts so much. We are burying her tomorrow evening. Her cage is in my room, and it is all I can do to go in to give Allie meds. I am getting married next Saturday, so hopefully I can throw myself into that to get through this.

Allie is doing well. She has started eating, and is on some medication to help with the pain/antibiotic. I also am torn because she will still be on meds when I go on my honeymoon, so I can either stress her out by taking her with me, or stress her out by boarding her at the vet, because my mom will feed her, but not give her meds (understandably).

To Ashes... everyone always commented on your big brown eyes, and although you had a temperament, you were turning into such a sweetie. I regret that I will not get to see you continue to bond, and I miss you so much. Have fun in Chinnie Heaven, and look over Allie for me. I love you.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. That is just awful. I know sometimes things happen at the vet that are out of our control. But it is always difficult.

Thank you littlechins. I am trying to decide if I should take her cage down yet. Allie and Ashes were not caged together, but they were side by side and would call for eachother if I had one out and the other was in her cage. I don't know if keeping it up with her scent for a while will help Allie cope a little, or if it would matter either way. I know it would be easier for me to take it down so I don't have to see it empty every time I go in there. Any thoughts?

I'm sorry for your loss. I had something similar happen once with one of my chins at a vet clinic. He passed away there and it was very heartbreaking and shocking for me. As it was only a minor thing he was in for and no one thought he would die from it. :cry2: I'd suggest just keeping an eye on Allie and how she copes the next few days. Some chins don't take it so well, some do all right when their cagemate/buddy passes. A friend of mine has one right now, not doing too well now that his buddy of 8 years passed away.
