Hi there...I know what you are all thinking. Not another thread about trying to get into chat.
But...I really can't solve this one. Our computer was sent away to someone to get a bigger memory and cleaned up etc. It is faster and a new generation or something he said. Basically, it has everything, I believe. Minus...Photoshop that got deleted.Sigh.
I tried to get into chat but couldn't. I went to go see if the new version of Java was downloaded but couldn't find Java anywhere? I did a search and everything for it but it was nowhere to be found. Yes, I looked in the Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs but not there like it was.
Is there some other program? Maybe shockwave or something? Couldn't find either.
Thanks for reading and hopefully we can find whats wrong................................ :)

If you don't have Java 5, you can't get into chat. Go download it. Only 5, not 6.

I'm gonna guess the computer got "upgraded" to windows vista, which is creating difficulty finding a way to downgrade the Java.

Well, I tired to download Java but my computer didn't allow it. It said I needed to download something else first and tried that but once it finished it also said that it could not run.
SO, I too assume that, Jeff. Not sure!

You are all talking about downgrading Java, but isn't that leave you vulnerable to viruses? I can no longer use chat because someone on a tech support forum said it was important that I upgrade, and I honestly don't feel comfortable downgrading. Is there a reason why the chat can't be upgraded?

Java isnt a virus protector. So NO it does not leave your computer vulnerable.
Word for the wise: Dont believe everything you hear.. Do some research for youself.

Well.. I'd assume since these people are capable/certified of fixing my computer, they would know best.

Sorry hun...but downgrading your Java won't hurt a thing. It definitely isn't going to hurt your computer to do so. If you don't want to, that's fine. But no, CnQ will not be upgrading its chat simply because someone/some people choose not to downgrade their Java. That's just not going to happen. So, your choices are, 1) downgrade your Java and come join in the chats...2) leave your Java alone and forget about chatting on CnQ.

Actually the new java breaks a few applications. I know at work a few updated to the newest version and applications we use daily started to have more errors or features became unusable.
And never assume a computer person is certified to do anything. I worked in the computer field for many years and some folks supported the theory of "upgrade to the latest and greatest" and never tested to see what the latest and greatest broke. Sometimes the latest and greatest introduces problems For example, look at iTunes 8. When it first came out Vista people started to experience the "blue screen of death" ie it crashed Vista. Apple quickly introduced a new version to correct it, but people had to downgrade to use iTunes w/ vista.
