I've noticed that there are some members with banned under their user names but they are still allowed to post. What does this actually mean other than the person in question has done something inapropriate?

Once they are banned, they do not post. Any posts they made were before they were banned. It doesn't make them disappear, it just doesn't allow them to post from that point on.

The date of the thread should be posted right about your user name.

what gets you banned?
You can become banned from the forum by not abiding by the forum rules, spamming the forum, etc. All of this is explained in the forum FAQ where you can find the rules

Dunno Shelli. I don't even remember you being banned!
But, if you were, most likely it was temporary so they are still here. Nobody's posts get purged when they are banned. It just shows "banned" under their name and they can no longer post or read the forum, depending on what we set them at.
