Sweet Pea has not been herself lately. Last night, I woke her up to find her very lethargic and sickly looking. Thinking maybe she was hibernating, I took her out of her house and wrapped her in a blanket, but she wasn't cold. I let her walk around on my bed, thinking that would cheer her up (it always does), but she just sat there looking sad. Then, she just put her head down and went to sleep, something she NEVER does. Sweet Pea always hides under something and makes a nest before sleeping. Thinking this was really odd, I examined her blanket that she sleeps under, I found a spot of what looked like either vommited or pooped blood. OH MY GOD. I figured maybe for some reason it was something she ate and it passed, hoping for the best.
I woke her up this morning, and still, very lethargic, not doing much and pretty defensive, mostly in a partial ball, which is also odd, because it's impossible to ever get her to go in a ball. I knew something was up, and she felt a little bloated, so I figured maybe a warm bath would help her feel better, and I'd be able to see which end the blood came from. Sure enough, while in the bath, she pooped blood. Immediately, I called the Vet, and left to go over there by 6:30.
The vet told me that it's definately an infection, because she was filled with gas, and she's in a lot of pain when you push her tummy, and he started pushing her tummy all over checking for masses. No masses, but he gave her stuff to re-hydrate her, and a shot of something. He gave me 2 medications for her to take:SMZ-TMP, and Panacur. I left, somewhat relieved, and Sweet Pea perked up a lot.
I just got home, it's 10:00 at night, and as I was transferring her from her shoe-box transporter to her house, I felt that she was swollen, so I turned her over. SHE IS SO BRUISED AND SWOLLEN! The attached pictures (IMG_0323 - IMG0325) show her belly, and the last picture, IMG0316 shows what she looked like before (1 week ago)
I'm obviously going to call the vet tomorrow, and was contemplating taking her to the Emergency Vet, just because I'm afraid she's bleeding internally.
However, when I put her back in her house, she did eat some food, which is a good sign? I think? But the swelling is drooping over her hind leg and preventing her from walking right. She does seem like she's in less pain now, but what the ****?! (pardon my french, I'm VERY stressed right now.)
I know she's an old lady, and am expecting the worst and hoping for the best. Sweet Pea, God willing, will turn 7 this upcomming spring. I dont know how much fight she has left in her though.
that last last pic is for me just to hold on to the good times. It's been an emotional rollercoaster these past few months.:cry2::nolove:
