I have created this forum due to popular demand. This section is dedicated to all things related to hedgehog rescues.

This section should be used for asking for help with rehabilitating a rescue, finding a new home for a rescue, finding transportation for rescue, etc.

If you are not sure if your post will be allowed in this section, please ask a moderator.

Hello,
The other day somone who does hedgie rescues who lives in my state asked me if I wanted to adopt some hedgies, of course loving hedgies I said yes, but to I have to pay to adopt hedgies??

Teddy, it depends on the rescue. Some require an adoption fee to offset the expenses that rescues run up and some don't. Just ask. If you don't want to pay, then don't adopt them.

Sandy, most likely the reason you can't find any hedgehogs to rescue is that there is at least one very active, well connected rescue in NJ. That's Matt Teymant at Forever Blue Monday Hedgehogs. He's an IHA sanctioned rescue, a USDA licensed breeder and has his NJ permits.

Have you gotten your permit to own hedgehogs? Have you joined the International Hedgehog Association? If you plan on placing the rescues, legally you must have a USDA license.

Do you have a hedgehog-savvy vet lined up? There is a lot more to rescue than "I'll take any hedgehog you don't want." There are medical expenses to consider, behavioral issues to deal with, health issues to take into consideration.

Rescue is not a way to get cheap or free hedgehogs. Trust me, the most expensive hedgehogs I've ever had have been the free ones.

If Matt doesn't scoop them up than The Hedgehog Welfare Socity rescues in NJ scoops them up. You could give them a try too!
