I think that you can teach them tricks b/c Rosie comes when her name is called and of course she is potty trained, so yes I do think that they can be trained.

I think they can be trained! both my girls are litter trained, and when i got stand at a certain spot beside their cage, Bridget will run over and wait for a treat! She also will usually come when i call her name, unless she is busy eating her dinner!hehehe

I swear orson, my little girl is trained better than most dogs!! ;) she comes when i call her and she climbs the walls of her cage on cue (with a little help from a certain mealworm;)) so yeah, i'd say they can be trained! :)

I'm still waiting to see one 'roll-over or 'play-dead' on command.

Koosh is definately trained. He has a couple of rocks in his cage. If I scratch one a couple of times, he knows a treat is waiting for him... and he comes running. It's too funny!
Then he immediately checks his food bowl.

I managed to semi-trained one of my hedgies to use the litter ... by semi i mean she goes in it ... but her butt isnt in the box so it falls outside of it ... but i still give her a meal worm for effort ... she does manage sometimes to get it in ... but the 2nd one is a little to stubborn for a box ... she goes when she has too wherever she is ...
thats adorable how you guys have yours comming out and running over on command for a treat ... i think i should try that ... im sure my lisilwen would catch on quick .... she always up for some mealies!

I think hedgies can learn to do certain "tricks". All of mine are paper towel trained and a few know their names and will come to the sides of their houses when I call to them. Gweny is the funny one...if I call her Gweny she'll stay in her house and look at me thru the door but if I call her Gwenyver she'll come out....apparenlty she isn't fond of her shortened name. Two days ago I had the door to her home open while I was cleaning the hedgie houses and she got very close to the side and I asked her to go in to her igloo until I was done...not sure if it was just a coincidence or not but she DID go in her igloo and when I was done she came out. She did it again last night, too...she came close to the sides while I was giving everyone their supper and I asked her to go play and move from the side....and she did. Not sure if she understood me or if it was just timing.

I voted for "no", but only because I don't consider doing stuff to get food a trick.
