I (hopefully) will be getting a chinchilla for my birthday in October, but there are a few issues that I'll need to work out before my mum will say yes.
What I'd like to ask is where do you let your chinchilla out to play?

We have found that the bathroom works best for us, as it is easy to chin-proof and much easier to clean up than the rooms with carpets.
That being said, we'd LOVE to move into a three bedroom house and have a solid floor surface in the chin room so that we can have a bigger, better space for them to run.
Please send donations for a new house to... ;)

Cancer and Tumor are still on quarentine so they get the bathroom for run time.
Pika, Paige, Boo and Chino all get the unused half of our bedroom (we have our room in the basement and it is half of that, so they've got a huge run area...hehe

We let our chins run in the living room, as it's the biggest room with the most empty floor space. It's also easy to keep them in and keep them occupied in. We also let them run up and down the stairs every night, which is something they just *love*.
Before we used the living room, we did use the bathroom for running time, but now with 5 chins, it got too crowded. Even separated in the boy/girl groups, three loose at one time in the bathroom seemed too much. It's a large bathroom, but the living room just works much better.
Of course, it's all circumstantial, everyone's "best" place is different. :)

The bathroom area also works well for us. Much easier to vacuum up the dust of the vinyl than it is carpeting. They have learned how to compensate for the lack of traction on the floor, it's fun to watch them slide and skid to a stop. They also love to run and jump in and out of the tub (dry of course).
My boys play in the kitchen/family room, the girls play in the chin room where they check out the boys cages.

I let my chins run around our front foyer...it is a huge space and i just sit there and block off the door ways to the other rooms! They love it! :)
The boys have the run of the livingroom. Its the biggest room in the house. I use to do that bathroom thing too, but found out one day how easy a full grown chin can slip under a closed door in our hallway. Now he can't get out of the livingroom, so I can keep a better eye on him.

Peanut gets my whole bedroom. I chin-proffed everything, so it will be perfect for him to run in while Im sitting on my bed doing my homework...sigh...But he doesnt even need to be out because of his huge cage (and wheel), but I cant stand him begging to be let out. He is too cute

I let my boys run around in an area with steps and then a huge landing, I put a baby gate up though, just so they can't get into too much trouble. Like Alecia said, they really do enjoy dashing up and down the steps.
