Today during my girl's free run I noticed her doing this "shaking" thing a lot. She was playful as usual but it looked like hyperventaling although I'm sure her breathing was normal. Her body seemed to be moving up and down quickly. Anyone know what the cause or reason of this is? I probably am not describing it well.

I know stitch does something like that. Everyone one who sees him asks me why he is shivering. I have figured out that he just sniffing so much it looks like he is shivering.

hope this helps.

Does it kind of look like your hedgehog's going into shock or something like that? and continues to shake while moving? (i don't think i describe it well) If so, make sure he's warm, that happened to me a couple of times, and come to find out Sirri was on the brink of hibernation, unfortunately, for captive hedgehogs that can be life threatening. The best thing to do is if it happens again, just pick him up and hold him close to you for warmth, he should come right out of it ^^

Hi,

You can use a heating pad but make sure its on the lowest and rap it with a towel so as not to burn the hog.......and in a few hours the hog should be back to normal

I know this is a very old thread but I have things to say :)...

My hedgie do the shaking thing (it is like a kind of hiccup and the body moves a little bit while doing that). It happens to Kiwi 1-2 times a month. I don't think this is a temperature issue. Mine did shake this summer when it was about 83F in the house. I have read somewhere that it is because they are very tired. Maybe it is a good explanation.

Does your hedgie do that ?

YES! I know what you are talking about. Razzle has done this a few times as well, and I don't believe it was because he was cold. It does sort of look like hiccups or something like that.

First, he gets very still then he starts this shaking. I was nervous the first time I saw it, I thought he was having a seizure or something. But it just lasted a few seconds or so and he was on his merry way, totally fine. I don't know what to make of it.

She's probably smelling something new, or at least straining too. Especially if it sort of looks like she's showing her "fangs" and lifting her head up. Dogs do the same thing when smelling new smells but I forget what it's called. From what I've read and seen hedgies do it too ^_^

i know this is not a funny topic, and i do not mean to offend anyone or disrespect, however this reminded me of when i first got price. when he was out during play times, he would what looked like siezure, and roll up at the same time, hard to explain......little did i know that he was actually pleasuring himself..........
