Apparently some members were not aware that C-n-Q is a "Pet/Pelt Neutral" forum. Let us explain what that means with regards to chinchillas:
Historically, chinchillas have always been used both as pets and as a source of fur. Everyone has an opinion as to whether chins should be kept as pets or whether chins should be raised for their pelts. There are valid arguments supporting both positions.
C-n-Q has always been a very open forum with very few rules. Members are asked to be respectful of each other and to remember that this is a "family" forum. Aside from not attacking or belittling another member and not using profanity, C-n-Q welcomes discussion and debate. We all learn from each other's opinions and experiences. Our forum is open to everyone.. pet owners, fur ranchers, everyone and anyone who cares about chinchillas. We want to encourage the sharing of knowledge... and excluding either "pet" people or "pelt" people is not the way to do it.
Because we all understand the arguments supporting chinchillas as pets and as pelts, we have deemed C-n-Q to support neither position. That is, if you think it is OK to have chins as pets... you are welcome here. On the other hand, if you think it is OK to raise chins for fur... you are equally welcome here. C-n-Q is neutral on this issue.
Just as a person is entitled to their own religious beliefs, every person is entitled to their own beliefs on these issues. There are other places where people can debate the issues of pets and pelts... but not here. Our moderators will do whatever is necessary to enforce C-n-Q's "Pet/Pelt Neutral" policy.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or comments on this topic.
Chinnie cheers,
Charles & Ingrid
