Well, my kids are 10 and 13 and although they feel that they shuld be able to have one their not getting cell phones until they are in high school and start driving. I don't see any reason that they need them at this time :)

My oldest son got one when he turned 18, the second to the oldest had one at 16 because he was more responsible if there was a emergency and his dad couldnt be reached. My 17 year old daughter is begging for one and she has been told no, she doesnt drive and only goes to school half a day.

alisha you don't need one, what do you need one for? you're either at home or at school, not like you're out all the time and miss thousands of calls. the house phone is better then a cell.

LOL When I was 47.

In fact, I personally know one member of this forum who is almost 37 and has NEVER had a cell phone.

We live semi rural and both the girls got them shortly after starting high school which is about 15 miles away. I also liked knowing they could contact me at anytime especially when out with new friends.

I got my first cell when I was... 22 :lol

Let me think... my niece and nephews are all in HS now. I think that they got their cells when they were 15 or 16. They live in a rural area and go to a HS that serves 4 towns. They have friends all over.

As great as they are to have you'll find that you really don't need one until your more mobile (driving... or away at college, etc.). I don't like the extra expense but it's nice b/c I'm on the road w/ horse shows and stuff. I'm knocking on 30's door but my parents STILL check up on me when I'm driving at odd hours-- that NEVER changes.
