I got better results on people wanting to buy chins. On CnQ most of everyone on here already owns chins and not really looking unless it is for something in particular.:)

I really liked chinworld. I got lots of responses to the ads that I posted, and I recieved quite a few chinnies there too. I liked the search mecanisim. (sp?) That really helped alot.

I was actually thinking of putting up a chinchilla classifieds site myself, but as soon as I started looking at webhosting for the program that I would like to run, and the yeilds of ads that a site like that would have, you would almost have to charge people to list animals on there, and most breeders wouldnt like to do that I wouldnt think. However, my search has not finished yet. I think I have found a host that will allow me to have a classified service for somewhere around $30 a month, but here is what I am thinking.... why put up a site and pay that much for webspace if you are not sure that people would actually use it? so here is the question that I would like to lay on the table....

"how many of you would actually use another site, with a program similar to the one that was at chinworld?"

I mean, dont get me wrong I love CnQ but for the forums... Im an addict lol but I miss chinworld's classifieds. :D

okay just an update... I found a company that will host my classifieds idea for $99.95 a year. This allows the search function and I can have up to 20 subcatergories and hold 5000 ads with no popups and I dont think you have to be a member of my site to post ads. How does that sound? Responses would be most helpful

oh btw.... how do I get ahold of the main opperator of this site? I would like to discuss putting links to this site on my classifieds site (if this even happens) and I wasnt sure who to contact about it.
thanks

"how many of you would actually use another site, with a program similar to the one that was at chinworld?"

I would use it providing it was free. If this happens, you might have a link where people could donate funds to keep it running. You'd just need about 100 people to donate a dollar a year. Does the hosting service include a domain name? If not you'll need to register one....I've heard good things about Go Daddy. http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/default.asp

Something else you want to think about is search engines. If no one can find the site, it does no good. It'll take a while to get to the top. One of the things that made the Chinworld classifieds useful was that they were at the top of most of the search engine lists. That can get expensive (see http://www.content.overture.com/d/ ).

One thing you could do is have people who use the site, link to it on their website (if they have one). That'll help bring it up on Google.

Another thing you need to think about is if you'll have the time and energy to keep the site going long term.

The owner of this site is Charles Larsen (Charles & Ingrid) on here...and he is also the owner of ChinWorld.

Also, you do know that there is a search available in the classifieds here don't you? :)

I just wanted to comment that new owners can be good owners, too. I happened upon Pikachu purely by chance when visiting a friend who's son was moving out and looking for a new home for her. I wasn't even looking for a pet, but fell in love with her. This was about five weeks ago, and I didn't know anything about chinchillas. Since then I have spent at least 40 or 50 hours researching chinchillas, that is how I found this site. I have learned enough that when she stopped eating for a few days about two weeks ago and didn't want to get out of bed, I was able to correctly diagnose her as being in heat (I hope it gets easier for her as she gets older, I would hate to have to watch her go through that too often!), which was verified by the vet I took her to. I called around until I found a vet who had experience specifically with chinchillas, he actually used to breed them. I take very good care of her, keep her in my room away from my 9-year-old son, take her out for playtime with me for two to three hours every night after my son goes to bed, and absolutely adore her. I also continue to spend a couple of hours on-line reading about and learning about chinchillas (it's almost 4:00am now.) I am now looking for a friend for her (and me!) and I hope that when I find one, I am not going to have a problem getting it because the person who is selling it only looks at the fact that I have only had a chin for five weeks.

Ok, here goes..

;) Idiots are everywhere but I have to agree that many of those posted at Chinworld seemed more professional and serious. There seem to be A LOT of 'kids' on this sight and I see A LOT of ‘if I could convince my parents to let me..’ and ‘if I save my allowance’. Not, that this is always bad just that there seem to be more of it here then there..

And I inquire a lot more about ads posted here because it is easy to ask questions. Chinworld ads you couldn't really just inquire with the ease of c'n'q..

The biggest problem I have here (that you don't at Chinworld) is there is hardly ever enough info in the first add posted by the seller. The ads are often so vague if you’re looking for a chin you have to reply to every post or you might be missing out and not even know it because the info isn’t available.:banghead:

Also, there aren’t a lot of posts for sale in the area where I am located. It was easier to find chins in my area at the Chinworld classifieds.

If I weren’t seriously interested in getting another chin I wouldn’t miss the Chinworld classifieds so much.. But I am serious, so I do miss them.. Please come back soon!!!

I know that Charles is working with different software companies for the new and improved version of the Chinworld classifieds. I've seen at least 2 different versions and both are wonderful. He IS working on it...just taking a long time to get it taken care of.

I feel the same way most people feel, I had more luck on chinworld than I am having here, more responses on the other. When I talk to local people, they have never heard of this site but have heard of chinworld or found it through searchs.

i know that when you do a google search for "chinchilla classifieds" chins and quills doesn't come up until the second page. same for yahoo search. a lot of people don't even look past the first page. that could be a potential block for this site.
