Hi there! I'm really glad I found this board! I'm a brand-new chin mama, and it was sort of an "unplanned pregnancy." ;)

My boyfriend and I were looking into getting a small, exotic pet. We're apartment dwellers and need something tiny and pretty self-reliant. We had chins on our 'maybe' list, but hadn't thought about it too much or did much research. Maybe sometime down the road.

A few weeks later, a friend calls me at work, yelling about having caught a chin being chased by a neighbor's cat in the driveway, and did I want him! It was the craziest thing I'd ever heard! Once we saw him, we just thought he was the sweetest thing ever. He'd obviously been on the loose for a few days, and there was some indication his owners had abandoned him on purpose. We put up signs, called the SPCA, but no one claimed him, so we decided to keep him.

We took him to the vet and found out, yup, he's a he, standard grey about 1 1/2-2 years old, and healthy. We call him Chinzilla.:chin6:

I'll definitely be coming back here a lot for advice. He's a pretty moody little guy, and I've never had a pet that needed so much attention!

Thanks, nw/omh

Welcome to chins and quills! Oh boy, you have your hands full! Don't worry, this forum is very helpful and you can get lots of needed advice on the older threads if you do a search. What a way to come into chin owning! That little guy is lucky to have found you and hopefully will settle for you but he is probably really traumatized for now. Good luck!

Welcome to CnQ! Wow, what an introduction to chinchillas you got there. I'm sure you will be a great mommy. But be careful! Chins are addictive! :)
