Greetings.
Moreover a test to see if this thing works. And hello.
I am Kyle Weiss. Hazumi Pinball is the chinchilla that allows me to be a part of her life. She's pretty cool. She's currently raising heck with her acrylic ball around my living room.
Food. Who knows about it? I used to keep birds growing up, and KayTee was always a higher standard of food for them. Is this not the case with chinchilla friends?
Hmmm. Any response or info would be great. I see the poll likes this Mazuri, Mazula, whatever it's called at chinworld.com. Good stuff?
Feel free to drop a note and say hi.

Yeah, KayTee may know birds, but they sure don't know chins...too much crap mixed in as chins love treats!!!
For feed, you want an all-pellet diet so they can't pick out just the "sweets" -- like a toddler would. Gotta keep them on a good diet for a long (15 years!) life. Also you want to give Hazumi hay, either timothy or alfalfa, dependingo n the pellets you choose. If you go with Mazuri, then I'd go with a timothy hay. The whole idea is to make sure they are pooping normal, plump but dry football or longer shaped poops.

Welcome Kyle! :) Your little girl is too precious...cute name, too.
Sandra is right, you will want to switch her over to a higher quality pellet (such as Mazuri, which is easily found locally). Petsmart now carries it in small bags. Or if you call around some of your local feed stores, you should be able to find a Purina Mills distributor for larger quantites at a "bulk" price. http://www.mazuri.com/

Everything's been said about food, there's nothing to add.
However, I do have to tell you that exercise balls are horrible for chins! Chins have thick fur, causing them to easily overheat, and exercise balls never have enough ventilation. Also, exercise balls are simply not good because of the way chins move - they JUMP, not walk.
The best way to let Hazumi get her exercise is to let her run around in the bathoom (under your supervision). This is simply because bathrooms are the easiest places to chin-proof. Also, you could add a wheel from ChinWorld to her cage... they're expensive, but worth it! I'm currently saving to get a Flying Saucer wheel.
Anyway, welcome to CnQ and happy birthday! You'll love it here! :D

I should hope she's not pooping the size of a football. My vaccuum may have a bit of issue with that! *laughs* Only kidding, I knew what you meant. :)
I certainly don't want to defend KayTee if it truly is crap, but the food I feed her is KayTee "Timothy Complete," which is all pellets. The only treats her little mouth gets are the few and far between I determine she deserves for being good. That happens about less than three times a day, because hey, it's a chinchilla! :) So if this food is new, unfamiliar.... *shrugs* I actually used to work at Petsmart and the Mazuri has never been carried at the *only* Reno location of Petsmart. Looks like it's www.chinworld.com for me.
Thanks for your input, and rock on for being a chin rescuer!

Hi Kyle, welcome to CnQ!
Happy Birthday too! ;)
Heya, thanks.
So tell me more about hedgehogs. Under a poll for bedding, I was asking about them. I held a hedgehog once, it peed in my hand and fell asleep in it. It was really funny. Other than that I know nothing about them. Any sites or a quick breakdown on cost, food, habits, life expectancy, etc?
Thanks again.
