I was giving the baby girl a foot bath as normal so I let her soak for awhile. Then After she soaks I usually run water off to the side and cover the drain a bit. Well I was letting the water run and picking some stuff off the floor when I look in and she's running as fast as she can. I feel the water and its burning! I quickly switch to ice water then I take her out and hold her and she's bleeding and some of her nails and dried skin on her feet are coming off. My dad (who is a doctor, not a vet) told me to put sulfur cream on twice a day.

What should I do? I'm so worried? I put so much extra bedding into her cage so it's really soft (Carefresh) and I put some felt strips. I removed her wheel and her ramp to the upper level. She's in a lot of pain.

I'm a horrible mother. Please, help. :banghead:

O my lord how awful! You made a mistake and the best thing to do is get her to a vet right away. Tommorrow morning is the longest you should wait, it sounds like she is in a lot of pain and the vet really needs to look at her feet and asess what the damage is and what can be done. If there is an emergency vet around I suggest taking her to them now. If her toenails are falling off then she needs to see a vet ASAP. I hope you dont take this in a harsh way but this seems like an awful injury. I know that in humans burns are very very dangerous, and the chance of infection is VERY high, so she may need to be on antibiotics or something. The best thing for her right now is to get her to the vet.

I took her to the vet and she had 2nd degree burns on her. They had to give her anathesia to clean her and I came out a little less than $300 shorter. So I have to give her Clavamox Drops 0.2 mL 2x/d, Meloxicam drops 1x/d, and Animax Ointment 3x/d.

Her feet and bottom is very sore so I put a lot of extra carefresh in, and I'm using carefresh for her litter pan (I usually use Yesterday's news). I put down some felt strips and fleece and I took off her ramp to her upper shelf so I put the food on the bottom. I also took our her wheel since her feet can't get infected.

Anyone else have any hints? Anything is appericiated.

Thank you for everyone's concerns!

From now on, I think that all you have to do is to take care of her, give her the medecine and check her many times a day to see if everything is ok.

Poor little girl ! :(

I am also wondering if the carefresh is okay,do you think maybe it could get into her wounds? If im remembering correctly carefresh is made up of small particles right? If her feet arent bandaged maybe you should switch to something that wont get into the wounds or stick to the burnt area. I may be completely wrong because ive never used carefresh but what did the vet say about bedding? Sorry if im out of line but it just occured to me.

Yea I also agree that maybe you should switch to things liners like vellux. You will want her cage really clean anyways right now so he feet don't get infected so I would use liners and change them as often as you need to keep her cage clean. I wouldn't use carefresh. Poor baby...hope she starts feeling better soon!
