So, a while ago, I tried banana's with Naia. They flopped --- I mean REALLY flopped.. she rejected them completely.

The other day, though, I was walking through drug emporium when I happened upon the "Greatnut" section. I found a bag of "banana chips" Which is basically dried banana's... $1.50 for a 1 lb bag

Naia LOVES them. She gobbles them up. And the two new hedgies seem to like them, as well.

Now, they are treats, but i'm going to go ahead and put the info on here

Ingredients: Bananas, Vegetable or Coconut Oil, Sugar, Artificial Banana Flavor

Total Fat: 8g
Cholesterol: 0mg
Sodium: 0mg
Carbs: 20g
Fiber: 1g
Sugars: 5g
Protein: 1g

I've only given them the chips a couple of times (Naia twice and Kiha+Raelin once)

Sound like a good treat ?

Hummm, I don't think that it is a good treat.

It represent a lot of (bad) fat and lots of sugar. I don't know if I'd give banana chip to my hedgie.

Other opinion ?

Sidenote on this: Banana chips would be given much less rarely than mealworms/etc.

*ponders* My hedgie didn't care for plain banana either. I would like to try the banana chip. Maybe your girl liked the banana but not the texture? Perhaps if you dehydrated the banana yourself, you could get the texture without the additives? (Dehydrators are pretty cheap and I'd love to get in the habit of using mine....) I think dehydrating your own food is supposed to be cheaper (and healthier) that buying/eating commercially dried food, anyway.

nothing wrong with banana chips, but these sound like they have a lot added to them. i'd try to find ones that are banana only :)

I should clarify: maybe the hedgehogs didn't like the squishy banana, but liked the crunchy banana.

Hedgie_girl -- right, exactly. It's mainly the sugar that I think makes it ... *word*

anyway. I might look into getting a dehydrator (sp?) And until then, I won't mind giving hedgies these every now and again, but I agree, the additives make me cautious..

Thanks guys

I can't find just banana chips. They all have sugar and fat. I think they are very very over-sweetened, even for humans.

how ironic... i just got back from outside, i was taking Sonic outside to play for a bit, and i tried giving him banana. He didn't mind it i think, he ate a bit, but i dont think he LOVED it. what are some of your hedgies favourite fruits? Sonic LOVES watermelon, and he likes apples too a bit.

BTW, getting him a wheel tonight

From what I'd read on this forum, I thought that both banana and watermelon were favorite hedgie fruit treats. My hedgie won't touch them. :(
