I don't know if this question has been asked, but I'm just wondering how fast hedgehogs can be at full speed. If I were to let my guy go outside, for example, would I be able to catch him if he felt the need to go wild?
Let me know...

I'm not sure how fast they can really go but when I have Rosie outside I can keep up with her when i'm just walking... she doesn't even run all that fast in her wheel.

So who knows.

I remember seeing something that said they've been clocked at 12mph when at full speed. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I saw that, so it may be wrong. :(

a 5 minute mile? yikes! i know when my ana takes off, i can walk quickly to keep up with her. she also tends to run, then stop, then run, then stop... easy to keep up with. :)

I know that if mine run as fast as they do off their wheel as they do on, they would be going pretty fast. My hedgies love their wheels and will run on them all night, so Im sure they can run pretty fast.

when i take sonic outside he's never run, but he walks around the grass and stuff and i think he jogged once but it wasn't very fast.

you can calculate the speed pretty easily if you know the diameter of the wheel and count the number of revolutions in a minute.

i don't remember where i was in math at your age lauren, but if you want help with that PM me. if you learned this stuff three years ago, please don't be insulted :)

i'll time ana tonight!

Lol. I hope that when I get one he (or she) doesn't "feel the need to go wild!" I'm usually at the chin board, but i'll be getting a hedgie soon so i'll be over here as well!

There was a science fair project reported in the IHA newsletter a long time ago that had clocked them at up to 10 mph and going for something like 5 miles a night!!

i recently got a bike spedometer/odometer and was thinking about hooking it up on the cage to see how much gir runs each night. she runs quite a bit, and id be interested to know just how much!

i'll let you know the results after i try it out :)
